Can anyone help and tell me what this noise is please?

Hey guys like the title states , I have a very weird noise in my engine bay , and it increases the more I push the throttle down. Its really worrying me as I hope its not the bottom end. Mods are just dual cone intakes and Jb4. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My car makes the same noise from time to time. Does it do this all the time? I have heard others talk about this and seems pretty common. I'm sure if you do a search you can find something that talks about the noise your describing.

Bmw SAE-5w30(fully Synthetic). I just changed the oil 3 days ago but this noise has been there since 2 weeks now.

Sounds too high pitched to be anything on the bottom end. Sounds more like an intake valve or a lifter. Did it start suddenly or build up gradually over time?

What happens is the oil 'burns' on a hot spot, and little tiny flakes come off over time, and get stuck in the valve lifters, making this noise.

It sounds like a single lifter to me.

On my old V8 a 50/50 mix of Redline 5W30 and M1 0W40 was able to clean most of it out over the course of about 15000 miles...

Solved. It was the air intake clamp

there is no way in hell I would put seafoam in the engine oil, it is literally rubbing alcohol and will only prevent the oil from lubricating anything

this doesn't sound normal at all - take it somewhere and have it diagnosed, does it run normal?

Truthfully speaking it does run normal, because I have to drive it everyday. It's just that noise is annoying. \

I am by no means an expert - but it sounds like its something loose, broke or going to break. Maybe it's just low oil or something stuck somewhere it shouldn't be.
Either way - if the sound wasn't there before and now it is - you should check it out, waiting will accomplish nothing.

Well I was hoping someone from the forum could help that has had the same issue before. But I guess it's a trip down to the dealer then. Thanks again.

Yeah that sound is concerning enough that I would take it to a qualified technician. Better safe than sorry.

If it's a lifter, it might not cause any problems right away but over time the journal will wear and ultimately the lifter will fail.

damn! for some reason I thought the noise was coming from the rear left corner of the engine bay (exhaust valve lifter problem is very common).

Did they determine the cause of the pump failure? I ask because I am in the process of replacing my PS fluid.. the stuff in there looks like the alien black oil from the x-files...
