Yeah, at this time I have 8700 miles. I take good care of the car. I check the tires once a week, change the oil every 5000 with mobil one myself. Just got the spark plugs and the "special tool" from turner motor sports to get the spark plugs out. I was going to change them early at 10000 and dyno the car but looks like I might have bigger problems.

I do the same thing
but if I am not in M mode, I just tap the paddle and it will put it in M2 and then 5 seconds later start to shift normally again. First gear is so short... heck, I have traction problems starting out in 2nd even.. |

1) put it in reverse 2) smash on the gas! 3) slam on ur breaks....!! There were a couple saying they tried it.... And it was working for them so I gave it a try and it also worked for me!! So when ever I hear so squeeking from the brakes I know how to get rid of it!! And it sounds like if u reset ur tranny it should help out with the shifting... I reseted mine about 4 days ago and its riding very very smooth... |

I like this one, it made me laugh. I will keep this brake DIY ant-squeak when I hear it. Today it has not come back.
As a update on my rattle sound, it is not the transmission. I have concluded that the Borla exhaust with the RR dp at low rpm makes a certain hum that is just right and is vibrating something. My car is shifting fine and actually after I reset it things are perfect. The only thing I can think of is that missing those 3-4 screws on the shroud underneath is allowing the heat sheild or shroud to slap up against stuff and make the rattle sound I hear. I purchased the screws and headed out to put them in now. I'll keep you posted. While at the parts department I went and looked at the new 135i's and the M3's. Very Very nice. This might sound crazy but the 135i's seem to come with th M stuff inside and have a better interior combo than the M3. Just my .02. |

about the sqweek sound: I had that too and it turned out the low brake pad sensor broke off its housing and was rubbing on the rotor/wheel hub ... Somting like that. The dealer fixt it for me twice.

I am very happy to hear that its nothing...When you mean that u reset your transmission, your are speaking about the throttle depressed for 25 seconds with ignition on position right?? I think the rattle is definately the panels...any thing hanging or not tighten will cause definately some rattle...But again I am glad its nothing!! |

I just took the shroud off because I had a hard time aligning the damn thing. Well I found a black rubber piece barely hanging on between the right rocker arm and the heat shield just under the DP's. It has rubber teeth like it is meant to grip on one end and the other side has a thiner rubber piece that curves like it is meant to buffer something.
It has blue markings that read 7 205 126 >EPDM< I will try to take a photo. And thanks to all for giving support. I never think too much when I help others but it sucks to be on the other side. Thanks again to everyone. Photos soon. |

Hey cn555ic how is everything? Yes I meant the power on and gas pedal depressed for 25 sec. Anyways, here are the pictures. I don't know what it is but it must serve a purpose and I need it put back. I can do it but what the hell is it and where does it go? thanks
damn pics will not load. have them up soon. Last edited by XLR8MF; 03-27-2008 at 03:27 PM.. |

Back on the topic of the transmission, I would keep a very close eye on it. Try hard acceleration runs and force it to shift hard and make sure it can. Maybe the reset help, but that's exactly what my parents' 92 735iL does and it's transmission is shot. It definitely sounds like that's the problem to me. As long as you're under warranty though, it's not a huge worry I suppose. If it does it again though, I'd take it in.

Finally, here are the pics. It looks like some sort of weather stripping. I think it may be something from the engine bay to keep water out. Not sure. Any guesses?

It looks like there is a part number on the rubber piece, goto the parts department at BMW and make them look it up for you to see where it goes!!! I think that is your best bet!

I have experienced the same.
I think it's the Traction control. Sometimes it just cannot control the "power/torque" going to the wheels, i.e. the Electronic diff isn;t helping so what it does is just DUMP the wastgates. That's why the engine revs out with no power - as soon as it shifts, it then kicks back in and pull like daddy-o... No crunching, graunching or other nasty transmission sounds. It ONLY ever happens in 1st and only when MASHED with no consideration for traction. e.g. puling hard left out of a road into fast traffic. SJ |
