Pls help with the decision !
Have 2007 e92 335i for 6 yrs- got major recall items fixed (fuel pump etc)....it's in perfect form that any e92 335i could be..babied it, garage kept, dealerships maintained, no dings /scratches...but darn... It's resale value has dropped like a rock! I paid almost $60K in Nov 2006 (all options other than adaptive cruise control...loaded car with clear bra etc)...now it's value is hardly $26K! folks showing interest in this car have essentially been wasting my time...I've my new car coming (Porsche 911 "991" 4S) in about a month-which I plan to use as a daily driver!
I need help with the decision whether or not its wise to sell this car or rather keep it? I'm ok with regular service and maintenance costs but not sure if there's going to be a big ticket item related to reliability of this car that's really going to hurt me...anything over $3K for example in next 5-10 yrs? If I keep it, I'd keep it as a backup car, would drive it even less (only got 39K miles in over 6 yrs!!) and probably give it to my son when he turns 16 in 5 yrs. I do have emotional attachment with it and throwing it in exchange for pennies is hurtful Help!

as much as i love my car, i dont think its the type of car that can last decades. the value is just going to fall and repairs will still be the same price. i wouldnt want this car out of warranty.

Sucks to sell but I've made it a point to buy a car from a lease return from either an Asian driver, company or executive person leased or kept west coast below Washington.
Don't know? Keep or sell its your baby. |

You've had the car since day 1. It sounds like you were always on top of the maintenance and babied your car. Besides regular care, I wouldn't expect any problems that you may expect of a car that has been abused.
I say keep it. It's an excellent second car for those rainy days that you aren't going to want to drive your new 991. |

Well, there are no known 10+ year costs as the engine has not been around that long. Typically you can expect some electronics to start failing. Like all Bimmers, engine plastic parts and hoses will fail. After maintaining an M car and my wife's 325, most of the repairs are under 1k at a time and preventative maintenance will keep it going a long time.

Sell it since you will have a DD. Place the money in your son's college fund.

If you are going to buy your son a used 335i the only reason to sell would be to take out the equity now, set the expected cost in 5 years aside and spend the difference on track days to tune up your skills in the new Porsche. But you will never find a car you know is worth the money like yours is for your son.

Trade it for the Porsche and cut the sales tax.
You really can't predict what kind of car your son will want in 5 years ...... but from a father's perspective..... big, heavy, slow, are 3 really good attributes for a boy's first car |
