Nice write up man! I love how clean this setup looks, by far the best configuration / integration I have seen thus far. I have already burned through a Logic HVI, and am on BMS Dual cone setup, after seeing a few cars with this setup I am really tempted... Soo much money on intakes already though!

Very nice review, and very nice aesthetics indeed! The pictures look great, and I would probably want to make my hood see-through with the way that looks!

There's really no reason not to get the oiled filters...better air flow and clean & re-oil after ~ 30k mi.

Looking forward to it; just got the oiled aFe intake installed yesterday (replaced my oem intake + BMC drop-in filter). It's been difficult to tell if there's a significant difference so far.

Only thing I've noticed since driving it a bit more is that the intake sound is more pronounced. Any performance gain from adaptation since install is negligible.

Are you running a tune with that? I would think that if running PROcede v3, that being able to go from the stage 0 map to the stage 1 map with the aFe intake (or if running JB3) would make a few more HP/TQ than just the stage 0 map with oem stock intake.

Completely stock performance-wise.

To reiterate in case you misunderstood, I definitely noticed a difference in performance and throttle response when I first installed the intake. I haven't noticed anything else since that point except for sound improvement as it has been adapting.

Kinda makes me wonder what I'm gonna need to do to properly "adapt" the stock intake once I put it back in to dyno tomorrow.

Interesting, b/c typically with these kind of mods, you would notice more of a difference if you're tuned. Although, it certainly can be difficult to feel a +10WHP on a tuned car with ~ 340+WHP.

In addition, I can see how you would notice a difference going from a completely stock car; e.g. adding an intake, exhaust, etc. I remember adding an intake to my previous N/A car, an Infiniti G35 Sedan, and there was a significant difference in sound and throttle response.

Put your car in 3rd gear, and go from 1500 RPM to 6500 RPM 3 times, without ever shifting. That is the quickest way for the DME to adapt.

Where did you hear this? Has OBDII changed That Much? Used to be, back when the OBDII spec was first introduced on 1996+ models, that adaption was learned while driving in Closed Loop mode only... With the WOT pulls to 6500 rpms that you are describing, used to be that the OBDII BMWs would switch into OPEN loop mode where the engine ran off hard wired maps to which the adaption factors, learned only during closed loop running, would be applied. It used to take something over 40 miles of easy closed loop driving for the engine to adapt to new hardware affecting fuel trims and ignition advance.

Can you direct me to where its written that current OBDII spec is applied so differently? Almost sounds so different, maybe it should be called OBDIII?

I was told our cars are always in closed loop.

While going on a drive with Dustin @ Vishnu I heard that the 3rd gear pulls will make it adapt fast.

I think the design is shit. Clearly constrained by the design specs of the stock cowl. One pipe sucks in competition with the other, reducing effective surface area.

I'd do away with the scoop, heat shield etc and run them as far apart as possible. If you wanted to be really sneaky modify an M3 bonnet to fit a meshed breather around the bump and draw fresh air in from the top - maybe an intake like the wrx's have...

!! Paul E! I remember you from long long ago, I used to have a 97 M3/4 with a dinan supercharger.

Anyway, OBD-II only defines the data communications, adaptation is still a function of the ECU/DME/whatever you want to call it, and has nothing to do with OBD-II. Adaptation varies between manufacturers and ecu revisions, and has nothing to the communications protocol.

Your G35 didn't have the little whirly thingies in the intake tract to quiet the resonance.
