The instructions somewhere give a hint as to which one to use. I did mine to long ago to remember how I dealt with that same dilemma. Step away for about 10 minutes and come back with a fresh mind and re read the instruction schematic...

Red/Grey(small)=dimmer

Did you get or do you have the power taps?

Hook the red up to the black and red, hook the black to the brown and if your not doing the dimmer, then dont worry about the Red/grey. Cut it down and tape it off.

It can't get any simpler than the directions I just gave you. The picture you posted shows the exact same wiring schematic I posted.

Other than that, you need some resistors and a capacitor to make the dimmer work.

if you don't know how to tap a few power and a ground wire, then you should probably take it to a "professional". You don't want to be messing around with the BMW electronics, especially without a fuse in series. You could blow the gauge or mess up some wiring in the car.

The directions posted above cannot be any clearer for someone with a small amount of electrical/wiring experience. If you cannot follow them, take it to a shop... My 2 cents, good luck

i can't get the gauge to read correctly. it reads -28-29 vacuum and will change showing boost in 3 gear but will jump right back to -28-29 vacuum in all other gears. i tried resetting the ambient several times and it doesnt work. is there some special settings on the gauge i need to do for the 335?

Did you do the initial reset??? Check for a leak... With it reading -28, -29 it's getting Zero pressure. Normal conditions are -18 -21 when at idle...Check your "T" connection...

Do you hear any loud hissing under the hood at idle?

Probably pintched in the windshield section if you didn't take the airbag A pilar off

I was scared of the airbag blowing up in my face costing me $$$$ for another one, so I just used a cut off coat hanger piece at the end of my tube as a guide and pulled it up. Guess what? It got pinched and kinked by the dash rubber.

Assuming no leaks or pinching; Turn off car. Turn accessories on (Engine off) and press the little button till continuoesly till Error displays on the gauge. Turn off then start the car. Its simple. Forget the dimmer its a PITA and not all that much difference because as it is, even the gauege color wont match 100% and your eye will notice the contrast no matter what. Its red and the car dials are a warm orange. Anyone else considering this, I suggest you guy the RixEffects one. I was in same boat and glad I bought from Rixster.

I don't sell that gauge package anymore...

I will be releasing a new gauge soon, stay tuned

It will address all the shortcomings of the current VEI gauge... (color, dimmer circuit, placement, etc)

existing customers will get a large discount.
