Help! with jb4
I recently purchased a JB4 from a member. A buddy of mine was able to help me out. The car started just fine. However I wasnt able to pull up the menu. I clicked the minus and and the down arrow controls. Nothing happened. What could it be?

I purchased a used jb4 with broken pins my first time.
Didn't realize the pins were broken until I faced the same problem you did. Installed, car started fine, but couldn't get to the menu. This is what my pins looked like. Didn't see this because it was already attached to the jb4 housing. |

I forgot why some have those two pins and some don't, but the second jb4 I purchased didn't have those two pins and worked fine. My first one didn't work because one pin was smashed as you can see in the pic.

mine is missing those two pins as well, but works perfectly. I would go back into the ECU box and make sure that when you plugged the JB4 connectors into the stock connectors that used to run into the ECU that you didnt get one on backwards.
If you look at the sides of the connectors, there's a little open rectangle on one side. Make sure these are matched up or you have one on backwards and things get weird. |

You guys, i promise you that those two empty pins are there for a reason, thats where you'd wire in the FSB for your methanol kit so that it integrates with the JB4. I believe that's also where the speed limiter delete would go (but i havent personally tried it). It could just be defective assuming all the pins are straight.

You might want to plug in your laptop and go to settings, if I'm not mistaken and make sure at the bottom of the page it says disable steering wheel controls so maybe the ex user deactivated his steering wheel controls and that's probably all it is

Send it to BMS and they will replace what needs to be done. Mine had an issue, I sent it overnight, terry received it at 10am the next day, changed whatever needed to be done, and he shipped it overnight back the same day at 6pm, I had it the next day.. If that's not an amazing customer support I don't know what it is...
Spent only one full day without it, and I live in FL |

the two missing pins are for METH FSB. if you buy a meth kit you will need to populate those two empty slots for meth control.
as for the bent pins, the guy that had the JB4 should be driving a bicycle at most

I guess one of the downfalls of buying used. You wouldn't believe the state of some of these harnesses that i have seen from people buying used. It boggles my mind how people manage to damage and destroy these in the most bizarre ways.

Good point, but the board worked fine in my buddies car...I'll take a look at it regardless.
