Need to remove spoiler residue from my trunk
So I slowly pried off my black sapphire metallic spoiler for my E93, and was left with a messy combo of leftover plastic bits and double sided adhesive.
I'm fairly certain that if I remove it properly I can retain the paint and finish on my trunk, but I am just not sure the best way to go about it- any ideas? |

Thanks guys...should've used some heat to loosen up the spoiler.
On a somewhat related note, it's on sale for 100 clams- painted black sapphire metallic- if anyone's interested, but it will only fit an E93 trunk I believe... |

Just use your fingers and peel it off. I just did this when I changed mine from a low kick to a high kick. I just used my fingers to push on the residue and it would roll/ball up and then you pick it off. It's tedious and time consuming but my paint wasn't harmed. I had just polished it and it still looked perfect afterwards.

OP, I would say, save yourself from headache and damaging the paint further, get it removed by Professional detailer. incase if you decide to see a professional detailer, I would also recommend you get the entire car mini detail if it requires one. I found this detailer http://lidetailers.com/blog.html on www.detailedimage.com
Good luck |

This is what you need. 3M Stripe off wheel. I've used this to remove pinstripe and adhesive tape. Your local auto parts store might have one. I got mine at O'Reilly Auto Parts.
It works best if you heat up the adhesive a bit first with a hair dryer or heat gun. http://www.amazon.com/3M-Stripe-Whee.../dp/B00063VT0G

Clean the area, roll the large chunks off with your fingers and then use 3M specialty adhesive remover & microfiber towels to clean up what remains.

Unfortunately I discovered a more detrimental problem... there are pieces of plastic with what appears to be a silicone or beta-link bond under them... looks like a job for the local body shop.
The body shop did a little too good of a job making sure that spoiler wouldn't go anywhere when I first put it on it seems, and I can't really fault him for that. |
