Should I renew my warranty?

What's up everyone, I bought my car in 09 and my warranty expires in march. I only have 24000 miles on it since I live in jersey and take a bus to work in NYC everyday and only drive my car on the weekends or to the gym on weekdays. I haven't really had any problems with my car except getting a new headlight assembly since the adaptive headlight feature was malfunctioning. I've taken my car in for maintenance every year as scheduled. The extended warranty being offered does not cover wear and tear parts like the clutch, brake pads and rotors, lights bulbs etc. so with that being said, do you guys think purchasing the extended warranty is worth it?

No. Not at all... I've heard stories of people who buy the extended warranty after 50,000 miles, use it up to 100,000, and they don't get what they pay for. If you have a 335i then your turbos, wastegaste rattle, and HPFP is covered anyways without a warranty.

+1 BMW extended warranty is god-awful expensive. My thoughts when I bought out my lease was if I was expecting $4k in repairs in the 3 extra years of extended warranty, I'd push the car off a cliff and let it burn.

If you bought this car new and it has not given you any problems dont pay for the cpo extra 2 years. I would rather pay for the extended maintenance warranty which covers wear/tear. It will only be worth it if you get your brake pads and rotors done since that is very expensive and you will get your moneys worth

If for what ever reason you have a dream of being attacked by a bear, do some research before buying BMW's extended warranty.

Thanks for all the great feedback. I was definitely thinking the same thing but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't making the wrong choice.

I recommend the warranty..

I have over $12,000 in repairs (including RFT replacements) on an extended warranty I purchased in 2009 for $2250.

The $12k doesn't include 30 or more days of free loaner cars provided while the car was being fixed.

If you are a mechanic, have a friend whom is a BMW mechanic, have your own lift, then I would take the risk. Otherwise the old adage still holds true. "You don't drive a BMW out of warranty.

I bought my warranty from easy care warranty.

Asking someone else if you need extended warranty is like asking someone to predict the future. Your car's pass history of relaibility have nothing to do with its future relaibility. However, the your low milage driving pattern does help with the sik factor. A low mileage extended warranty will cost you less. Just remember, an extended warranty is a form of insurance, the cost of it reflects the risk, the admin. fee and profit.

only do it if your doing FULL warranty and FULL maintenance.

anything less they will try to find anything and everything they can charge you for out of warranty. Such a headache!

If you plan on keeping it for another 2-5 years, I would say it is a worthy investment based on my experiences and the experiences of friends of mine

Think about it. If you're purchasing a home for $100k and you're getting yearly insurance on the home for $1k -- would you pay for it?

IF you buy a car for $30k and you're worried about spending $3k for a cover your ass policy on the investment then as I've said to other poeple on the forum, look into other cars. Warranty is different than maintenance -- if you can wrench get the warranty only. It's a piece of mind type of deal.

It's a third party warranty company. "Vehicle Protection America." Is that the extended warranty that all BMW owners get or are there other options with better coverage? It's about 3k dollars in total for the 5 year 100k mile coverage
