Is the performance exhaust worth the money?

So... my wife's car lease is up and we are thinking of getting her a 328 sedan (already have a 335 coupe and want to save a few bucks otherwise Ive been trying to convince her to get the 335 sedan), and my question is if adding the performance exhaust via bmw gonna sound really good or make any noticeable power gains with daily driving?

Any one with one from bmw performance wanna chime in?

Won't do that much in terms of power, but my buddy just got it last week and he loves the sound so far.

Also, if you own an xi, I'm not sure the performance exhaust is designed for it.

From what I've read and heard,I think the BMW performance exhaust is based mainly on being lightweight, if I were you I would go with eisanmann exhaust

I have the bmw performance exhaust and it sounds amazing. But if your looking for more power good tone I'd go with down pipes and stock mufflers, if not bmw performance exhaust is good. Either way if it's for your wife I must admit in 6 months she will prob be sick of the sound.

Yes it is designed to fit the xi as well.

I have it and love the sound. The perfect sound for these cars without the loud drone.

I think this exhaust is definately worth the money, especially when the stock 328 exhaust has no sound at all.

The main advantage of the BMW Performance exhaust is that it's a full catback system, unlike any of the others on the market near it's price. You'll pay upwards of $1800 for a catback Eisenmann exhaust.

but even those full catback systems don't really add much (if any) hp, so it's not really worth the money if you are just looking for some sound.

You're not gonna add much power with the performance exhaust. In my opinion, I'd go with an aftermarket exhaust because it's going to be way cheaper, and there are a large variety of sounds depending on what you buy. If I were you I'd look in the video section, and find one together with her that she really likes.

Personally I think the Perf exhaust sounds better than 95% of all other aftermarket exhausts.

I installed the cat-back performance exhaust and the performance intake (stupid expensive) on my 328iT and it definitely transformed the car, sound's much better and a bit of performance increase per the "butt-o-meter". (The Performance exhaust was made at the Cooper Works, UK per my shipping box FWIW)

I thought about aftermarket but im leasing and dont want the hassle of changing around pars plus the performance already comes on the car - plus i can build the price into my lease

I just had the BMW PE installed on my 335. Went to a meet last weekend with numerous BMWs, including a supercharged M3. Everyone there gave me major thumbs up and two people left the meet determined to buy it.

It is a wonderfully smooth and addictive sound, gurgles and blubs nicely when letting off the throttle, and has zero drone. It's quiet when you want, and if you lay into it you're instantly rewarded. Best of all, no warranty issues.

BMW PE is relatively expensive, IMO, especially for the coupe. $1200 for just the part and it's just mufflers ...

No perceptible performance gain; I knew there would be no difference going in. Just wanted the sound.

I'd buy it 10 times over, even if warranty wasn't an issue. It sounds that good.

The sound is perfect, if you ask me. I wouldn't want any other exhaust. With the cats on it's a bit on the quiet side but since it's your wife's car I would say it's a perfect addition as far as sound goes. BMW advertises 5hp power gain.

BUT if it's a 328i and it's for the wife, why spend the money ?

AE - sounds just as good if not better, replaces the full DP back exhaust, weighs a ton less, and better HP gains.

MT, spoiler, exhaust should all be good at improving your PERCEIVED performance, but you will need to chat more with others who have done similar mods to get the maximum benefit here.

Im definitely getting this exhaust soon!

Would this exhaust benefit the 330i more than the 328i?

Just a thought..

I was so disappointed. My E46 325i had a great and visceral sound all the power band.

323/328i have a Lexus-like engine note.

1300$ later I have a BMW PE.

In short, it is not quite as good as my old E46.

Specially at low-mid-range where my old M54 had a velvety deep-throat sound. In the E90 323/328 with PE you don't hear much unless you pass 3500-4000 where it gets quickly loud. To the point that it gets embarrassing in an urban environment.

I don't regret my purchase, I just regret that the engine note is not as "balanced" as in my stock E46.

No. For whatever reason, the 330i has a better stock engine note than the 328.

None of the exhausts for these cars are worth their cost when new. If you calculate HP per dollar you'll see the light.

Hey, if a new sound is worth $1,200 then have fun. I'm not paying the BMW tax.

Everything I've read (including most of the posts in this thread) confirms that owners are generally pleased with the BMW perf. exhaust. I personally am considering getting it within the next week or so , but am trying to find someone nearby with it installed so I can hear it in person. So going off that, I'd recommend hearing it in person to truly decide, though the praise I consistently read about makes it hard to wait!
