I would try and stick to like for like replacement. It's a lot of time and work to swap them, only to find out it is unusable.

The main difference is the 6cyl models use a Mk60E5 which has 5 pressure sensors.
4 cyl models use the Mk60 which has only one pressure sensor.
The two look the same externally but you will see the difference once you split the control unit from the valve body. They are not interchangeable.
AWD models i cannot comment on as they dont sell Xi's here.

Thanks for the answer juld0zer but does that mean that the model of the car needs to be exactly the same? Meaning could a 330 unit work on a 325 ? or a 335? All have 6 cyl engines with the same cc's but do they have the same units?

I cannot confirm what AWD models have as we never got AWD 3 series in Australia.

I used a 323i module in my 135i.

Do you know if it's possible to use a whole 6cyl pump and module as a replacement on a 4cyl vehicle?
I understand they have more pressure sensors however if the whole unit is used and coded, do you know if it will work. Reason I ask is because I have 2 spares from 6cyl and need to change a 4cyl. Also do you know the difference pre 09/2008 And post?

I have the strangest issues with a 4cyl unit on an e91. Basically the dtc button does nothing at all. No codes, dtc physically works just can't be turned off. When I run all test measures everything passes except activation of the button. I've checked wiring from the button to the jbbf module pin1 to pin 4 and its ok. All I can rule it down to is the dsc module, hence my question.

Any help much appreciated.

If anyone still has a cheap abs module, I would like to take it off their hands. My car's currently a mess with a bad module. trifecta, trans codes, wipers, etc. When unlplugged all issues go away.

I dont think a 6cyl unit will work on a 4cyl model because the pinout might be different or it might have a different connector altogether. I cant say for sure - perhaps you could plug in the 6cyl one and see if the connector fits? The rest would be very experimental though. 4cyl units are cheap.

Apologies in advance, but it has been brought to my attention that some earlier cars had a different DSC module. Make sure you search by VIN on ETK to determine the correct module for your car.

Another method of sourcing a replacement is to take a photo of the label on the pump motor and punch those numbers into ebay and Google.

That is for a Bosch DSC module. Bosch modules were only used on Xdrive E9x cars.

In the first post a copy of Continental / ATE instructions are included. Those instructions include disconnecting the battery, holding the brake pedal down, and relieving pressure by opening bleed valves at front and rear wheels. I don't see that in any of the videos. Are those procedures needed?

Absolutely!!!

You dont need to disconnect the battery but the latter two are crucial to having almost zero fluid loss aside from spillage when manoevring the old and new units out/in.

Without the pedal the master drains on its own

Just wanted to thank all that have contributed to this thread. I had ModuleMaster repair the ABS motor. Everything went smoothly thanks to the guidance here. As a note on brake bleeding. I bled the system, drove the car and engaged the ABS several times, and bled again. I have no idea whether this got all the air out of the ABS unit, but the pedal is as firm after I engage the ABS as before.

For those who have issues with this unit in 90% of cases it can be repaired for cheap by someone who knows what is doing, the mechanical part must be disassembled and there are 2 small plastic pins that remain stuck within the pump itself

Use WinKFP to update the module and write the VIN to it. ISTA/P is overkill for this and will update the whole car. Then use ISTA/D for recalibration, bleeding, and steering angle, if needed.

Ok. I actually don’t need to swap the module, I’ll put my old module on the newer 2011 328i pump. That should work, correct?

I can't comment on that or advise that you do it. I would only ever swap a controller module to a matching pump body (white label on the black can with matching ID numbers) to ensure compatibility.

Without your VIN and donor details i can't say yes or no. From your posts above, it sounds like you want to use a pre-LCI controller with an LCI pump body.
