2013 335is
Ordered my 335is back in Dec, it will arrive in 2 weeks, just wanting some advice on if I should go for a JB4 or Vishnu? Whats the main difference besides price, also do they even have these for my car yet? Also I heard that the 335's are underrated with hp and what not, does anyone know what a stock 335is puts down on a dyno? Thanks.

Mine did 319whp on a dynojet with 93 octane gas...different dynos or even the same one on a different day can generate other whp numbers

I would recommend a Cobb. Just plug it into your dash and turn your car into a beast instead of fiddling with the ecu under the hood.

OP - A tune is good, if available and you have the mods the justify it (FBO/Upgraded turbos), but keep in mind you are flashing the ECU. There are some known caveats to be aware of in this case. A JB4 is proven power, safe, feature rich, and flexible, so it gets my vote. |

If you protune a new car what do you do when you go in for dealer service? Do they give you a copy for your own COBB handheld?

I like Cobb. no messing with the wiring and a 20 minute removal to go back to stock.
On a new car, going back to stock should be of the utmost importance. |

From what I have seen/read, the first thing the COBB unit does on the intitial install is save the factory settings in a file to be used later when going back to stock (see dealer visit).

I know about switching back to stock but that's not what I am asking. If the car is tuned at a pro shop do they give you the pro-tune maps to take with you so you can go back to the pro-tune after a BMW dealer visit?
I am pretty sure on the Vishnu flash you have to ship the ECU back & forth to get it changed.

Yes, I think you can switch to any file that has been saved with specific parameters

Yes, any custom map can be switched back to at any time, as many times as you like.
jb4 and procede are piggybacks you install on the ecu. Cobb is a flash. I am guessing you havent heard about the others because you weren't looking in the right place or talking to fan boys. Piggies provide some more options than flashes but flashes provide access to ecu data that even piggies require a flash for at some point.

This is one of the essiantial features for "Etuning" that PTF does with Cobb without having to go to an actual dyno shop Last edited by BQTuning; 01-28-2013 at 07:17 PM.. |

^^^^^Thanks for the info I wondered about that.
I think if I was getting a COBB pro-tune I would want it done on a dyno. I did swapping of logs & changes with Terry by email & it worked out very well, but if I was messing with the ECU internals I am not so sure I would want to go that way. There is a lot of talk about getting into the ECU etc. with the COBB flash but I am mostly interested in results not techniques. Based on what I have seen of COBB cars numbers so far I can't really see any compelling reason to switch to a COBB flash tune. There is a car listed above using a COBB tune with what looks like a number of bolt-ons. The torque & WHP numbers posted don’t look all that compelling compared to a piggy with similar or less mods.

JB4 makes more power hands down. Alex's car just dynoed at 435 whp on a dynojet. FBO with E85 minus meth. JB4, ftw.....

Power-wise it's probably a wash between the two, but the JB4 and off the shelf Cobb maps use very different tuning styles. The JB4's run leaner than I like on a FI application, but again, that's my preference. Either one is a good choice, just gotta decide what features you really like best.
