Bilstein B4 Sport and H&R Sport Spring Question
I already did a google and forum searches and did not find any info.
Can I use the H&R Sport springs with the Bilstein B4 sport shocks and struts. Bilstein B4 are a direct replacement for the factory shocks. I have the standard suspension and would like to lower it since I'm doing the suspension refresh. Bilstein B6 and B8 and Konis are out of the question since they are double the cost and I might keep the car for another 3 to 5 years only. I'm looking for the most cost effective solution. Below are the links to the Bilstein B4 Shocks and Struts. FCobra94 and cdgotti thank you for your input but the question wasn't answered with your comments. I'm replacing worn factory struts/shocks (106k miles on originals) and replacing with something that is close to factory specs, if not slightly better.
This is my dd and don't want to make the ride too harsh or too low but would like to also lower it to ZPP ride height while I'm at it. Factory sport suspension is good enough for me and the driving I do. I also live in Chicagoland area the pothole capitol of the country. Finding used low milage sport springs for E91 is like finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. If anybody else has other suggestions for lowering springs that will work for the Bilstein B4 Sports please let me know. Last edited by slupie; 09-23-2015 at 09:37 PM.. |

I don't know from personal experience, but have read multiple threads where people were running Eibach Pro Kit springs and Bilstein B4s. The key is the b4s come in both a regular and sport version, so if you go with the lowering springs (of any type), you'd want to make sure the b4s were matched up properly to the spring length.
Also, it sounds like H&R are quite a bit more stiff than the Pro Kit springs, so the Eibachs might work better on crappy northern roads. Here are a couple links detailing the B4 + Pro Kit setup: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=699134&page=2 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=739938 Hope that helps. Curious to hear how the setup with an e91 goes*– at some point I'll be doing the same thing on mine. |

How much money are you saving by getting the B4s? Save a little more then buy. Good shocks make a bigger difference than springs. Get either the Bilstein or H&R "cup kits" (spring shock package). Should be about $700. I've ridden and driven some cars with bad spring/shock combos and....well you don't want to either have to make excuses for your car or buy the most expensive part twice.

I can get the B4 set for around $300. People put H&R and Eibach lowering springs on stock struts all the time so I don't see the issue there. I priced out the whole suspension including B4 struts/shocks, front and rear mounts, springs and hardware and it will run total of about $800. If I go down the Koni or Bilstein B8 route the price goes up to about $1200 and I'm making the shocks a lot stiffer and ride harsher. If I could find used set of sport springs for E91 I wouldn't even be asking this question. It would be putting B4 shocks plus sport springs since I'm ok with the Sport Suspension for daily driver. |

Good shocks only make cars ride better. 1) proper valving properly dampens spring movements 2) good shocks better isolate handling inputs from bumps inputs 3) good shocks have better "blow off" mechanisms making the car handle bumps better (they soften up when you hit a bump). 4) Good shocks handle heat better (shocks convert movement into heat). 5) Proper shocks have the correct rod length for your shorter springs (B4s are too long, you'll likely hit the bump stop too often). Here - spring shock kits for $825. Throw in some strut mounts or camber plates and you're all set. http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-22...FZCIaQodxPUGpQ Quote:

E90 Turner Kit does not work on E91 it is E90 only. I looked at all of the vendors for Kits and there is not much that is compatible on the E91. I don't want to build a race car just replace what is worn and lower the ride height about an 1" to sport suspension ride height. We have snow and poor roads in IL.
E91 and E90 front springs are the same but rears are different. B4 Sports are for sport suspension and they are shorter than the standard B4. The B8's are worth paying double for in this instance; especially when you're already going to all that trouble of swapping out every nut and bolt, etc.
I would install B6 + your current oem springs before going with your intended setup for all the reasons jfranci3 just mentioned. The car will ride like sh!t w/ that spring/shock combo. Maybe not the day after install, but not far after. Take the money from half the crap you're about to buy in the above hardware list and put that cash towards a PROPER set of dampers instead. People keep giving you the correct answer to your question yet you seem to defend the exact opposite lol askhole |
