Problem with the car!

Hi guys,

Well over the weekend I detailed the BM and she looks spot on now but she doesn't start. "Eeekk"

Now this all came about when I moved the car from the garage and left it on the front and it came up on the screen with the Reduced battery life message I then tried starting it and it turned over but then clicked (dead battery and ! sign in the centre of the clocks), so i tried a few more times in desperation to no avail. So luckily a friend turned up in his E93 and we managed to jump start the car.
I took it for a drive I'll admit not a very long drive about 3 miles then left it running on the drive (5min) then turned it off (car was running for approx 40min). Then the following morning I tried to start the car and it would only turn over but not fire up so I headed to Euro car parts and picked up a new Exide battery and fitted it, yet the car did the same thing... Everything turns on and turns over but the car wont start.

Can anybody give me any advice?

may sound silly, do you have fuel in the car? iv also heard that if you have tried it with a flat battery a few times it can lock the car until the codes are cleared again

Half a tank of fuel and BMW told me the battery doesn't need coding to the car.

In fact out of interest why would a battery need coding to a car?

It should not stop it starting, it so it knows the battery is new and in good condition that's what I'm lead to believe so it knows how much to charge it.

Might I add I didn't ring BMW my Dad kindly rang while I was in work (not permitted to use phones annoyingly) and briefly described the problem, to which they said it shouldn't need coding.

If all the specifications of the new battery and old battery are same, you do not need to register the new battery to the car.

However if you have coding equipment and know what you are doing, then it is worth of telling your car that you had a new battery. So car adopts its values to charge the new battery.

As far as the original problem is concerned, its more to do with the error codes on your car then anything else.

I have no coding equipment but a friend of mine has a diagnostics machine.

As far as the battery goes i entered all the correct car details on the Euro Car Parts site so I can only guess the battery is exactly the same.

New one
see 5Ah difference.
It should not give your car any trouble.
Ask your mate to read all the codes and see nothing is critical there.
If none, then clear, and start the car.

There is a difference of 100 starting power too! But still should be more than enough.
The EB 950 is not listed as fitting any BMW.

The EA77 amongst others is the one you want - i think

If the car turned over it's not the battery. It would just click..

Sounds like a fueling issue..

I sent you a pm.
Get somebody with inpa / autologic and reset your immobilizer settings. When you changed the battery, your immobilizer has lost the settings of your keys.
Worth of trying second key.

I hope you put the battery in right first time and have not fried the Digital Motor Electronics (DME)

But more likely the immobilizer (EWS) has come out of alignment with the DME.

The only option in this case is to have the EWS reprogrammed

If, yes, I will send you the instructions how to sort this out (when you meet the OP).
