Three-Stage Intake Manifold N52B25 - 323i

Like I mentioned before for people who didn't believe me, the 323i comes factory with the DISA Actuator.

The Canadian 323i is acutally an Euro 325i with a Three-Stage Intake Manifold.

A simple ECU reflash will get you up to the European Spec 325i performance range.

323i CA 2007+ 2.5 L I6 200 bhp (149 kW; 203 PS) 180 lb·ft (244 N·m)
325i EUR 2005–2007 2.5 L I6 218 PS (160 kW; 215 bhp) 250 N·m (184 lb·ft)

I spoke with a tuning company, and they said that on the Euro 325i they were able to produce figures around 233hp and 206 lb/ft.

On top of that, primary cat removal and retaining the OEM exhaust shows a 15whp gain on top of everything, which is not bad for a engine which is a high-reving 2.5L straight-6.

I know it's bad for the emissions but I am sure it is okay
as long as your still running the secondary cats.

WOW, are you serious with that dyno? 15whp?

Did you have a shop do that, or..?

Yup, you need a shop to help you cut and replace where the cats fit with a small pipe, or you can just go buy yourself OBX/Raceland Headers

How long did that take / how much did they charge? Was it a sizable bribe, or a good friend?

+20 hp at the crank is pretty impressive.

Having this in mind, in 2008 I had exchange of emails with Upsolute, probably the same company we are talking about.

They refused to do anything for me locally thorugh their reps. I was hoping for a simple ECU reflash on my car Possibly if I was to send them my ECU it would have been a different story.

Here is their final answer received on January 2009.

Quote:
I have asked our main programmer in Austria to reply if he thinks it's
possible I doubt it because checksum algorithms between the two ECU will
be completely different. We do not disable emission's controls due to
legalities, and putting the euro software directly on would be illegal,
we can though look at the differences between the key maps and match it
on your car without environmental system changes inherent in Europe. We
will keep you apprised, Regards, Rene

Your idea of removing the primary is tempting, but Quebec is coming with more regulations and periodic tests so there is definitely a risk. The 323i has ULEV2 cats, the 325i Euro has something different according to realoem.

Well luckly in Ontario we don't need to do emissions check that often. Quebec laws are getting quite strict. Instead of removing your cats you can add a high-flow one but that would be more costly

Hey did you have the shop remove your headers to do that, or were they attached? Looks like tight quarters

You don't need to remove the headers, it's easier to work from under the car instead of working on top.

The numbers will be fine, resonator doesn't really affect anything.
Just weld back muffler, and it will be okay.

All you need is an 02 simulator if you don't want an error.

This is where you learn how to DIY your own o2 simulator. It is just a resistor.

I'll field this one. You won't NEED to change anything if you take the cats off, it will just be really bloody loud and you will be running effective straight pipes (not sure if they have 2nd cat in Indonesia). I would, speaking form personal taste only, keep the resonator on for noise reduction.

To make this work, you need a shop who will remove your catalytic converters and weld in straight pipes. This might be illegal in your country (it is in mine), so you will need a friend at a shop or the right amount of money if that is the case. Good luck!

If i removed the primary cats and left the secondarys and muffler, would this be a huge sound change?

Not huge, but it would be a little louder.

Does anyone know if you can pass emissions in the U.S. with primary cat deletes. I'm in North Carolina for my tag.

Nice mod. I had trouble reading the graph as its hard to tell if the lines of the graph cross over or not. Would you mind to read off your graph how much gain/loss there is at 3000RPM?
