DCI/CAI/Stock intakes ....... curious

Okay, so I'm doing my daily browsing through the forums and see thread after thread being posted/commented on by both owners and sponsors about different intakes available or being installed/used.

With the different claims being made by sponsors/manufacturers; I'm curious as to how many of us have experienced an improvement in mileage/performance or have been disappointed and gone back to the stock intake?

I initially installed the Logic MotorSports CAI and was admittedly impressed with the improved throttle response and obvious amplification of the turbos' "whooshing" sound. However, mileage never really improved as much as expected (maybe 1.5 mpg) and the lag seemed to be as evident as always (at the time). That was $350.00 wasted. It's for sale!

Then, I went with the aFe DCI and have to say that the claims made have been true ........ for me anyway. This intake was installed last summer and continues to deliver. My average mpg has topped out @ 30.6 mpg. I'll take that anyday. Throttle response is NOW w/ NO lag (still pre 29.2 w/ the Dinan Stage II ECU flash) and some of the "whooshing" noise still sneaks out now and then. $325.00 well spent.

All that said to ask what intakes have the E90/91/92/93 enthusiasts here most regretted and which intakes have you felt delivered?

Let our community know what worked and didn't work for you.

stock ........... I'll never know.
Logic CAI ...... NO.
aFe DCI ........YES.

PS. Thought about a poll but I figured there were too many intakes to keep up with anymore ..........

BMS, BMW Performance, DINAN, aFe, Logic MotorSports, GruppeM etc ........

I've got a Streamline drop in filter and I've gotten 30.9mpg driving between Atlanta and Athens, GA with 93 octane. So I'm not so sure a CAI will improve it by a measurable amount... seems to me there would be too much variability to accurately measure it.

Interested in hearing what others have to say about CAI's though...

You should be sorry ......

I never said anything about an increase of 11 mpg. I did say an increase to 30.6 on average. This increased from the advertised mpg BMW claims of 27 mpg. Your comment would base my average mpg having been 19.6 mpg. I've NEVER averaged less that 22-24 mpg.

I do believe the addition of the DCI, Borla catback exhaust and possibly the DINAN tune (maybe even the additional air inductions scoops) work well enough together to achieve the results though.

Then again ............ maybe you're talking to someone else without quoting them?
