be careful out there everyone!
seen a few threads come up here about people asking if they should use a torque wrench...
TORQUE YOUR WHEELS PROPERLY EVERYONE! (and no you cant just say " ill just tighten them as hard as i can" as that can damage your lug nuts/bolts too! ) seen recent posts on what happens when lugs fail or come loose.. and its not pretty.. I even saw a couple cars on the side of the highway on the way back home from work tonight where in both cases one of the wheels was gone and that side of the car was on the ground. in one case the car had gone into the barrier on the side. play it safe and make sure your lugs are torqued correctly and check them regularly! |

There was a news story a few weeks ago here in Atlanta where some guy lost a wheel off his utility trailer. Wheel bounced over the median and into the windshield of an oncoming truck. Would have killed the front seat passenger if there had been one, but luckily nobody was hurt.
Point being there's potentially others at stake... |

A couple of months ago, a wheel came off a RAV4 on the FWY. The rim was bouncing literary in front of my lane. I had to swerve and dodge it.

In addition to torquing, read the second paragraph of this link. Very interesting.
