The driver side low beam headlight is out on my 06 330i. This is a xenon bulb, and my car is just out of warranty. $500-700 depending on what they find seems like a very steep price to replace a lightbulb at the dealer.

Can someone point me to a DIY or post a set of instructions? The bulb itself isn't cheap (~$210 at the dealer and ~$100 aftermarket)

The symptoms were the following before the light went out: turned a blueish/purple color for a couple of weeks, then started flickering, then stopped, now it turns on flickers for a few secs to a min and turns off.

Check getBMWparts.com for the OEM bulb, it should be a bit cheaper... know how it feels my driver side angel eyes went out in my 06 330i right after the warranty expired.... its going to involve removing the tire and plastic wheel well to get to the back of the headlight assembly.

I do remember a day when changing a light bulb did not involve dismantling half the car. Changing a headlight bulb should not be more then a 5 minute job.

Anyway, I would do a search on shopping.google.com and see if you can find the bulb cheaper. I know you can get it cheaper then 100 dollars. I wish we sold these bulbs but at the moment, we don't.

If you want, I can get you 2 good quality aftermarket bulbs. (always best to replace both bulbs at the same time since its difficult to match the color)

That sounds like a good deal. Then just replace them yourself and save the 4 to 6 hundred dollars.

It still is a 5 minute job w/o having to dismantle half the car if you had halogens.

I thought HID's were supposed to last forever, but from what I read here, I guess the H7's would last longer then the D1S bulbs and H7's cost a mere fraction of the price of the D1S.

Are you sure it's the bulb? The bulb is the same for low and high beams, the HIDs change the reflector angle to make the highbeam light, the bulb does not change in intensity. Does the light work in high beam only?

Yes... high beam works while low beam flickers now and turns off. Can someone point me to a DIY for replacing the bulb?

your xenon bulb is D1S, but dont get it from the dealer, its quite expensive but i would recommend MTEC 6k

You ever figure out if it was in fact the bulb? I am seeing the same symptomps (flickering then turning off).

Just two days ago my driver side healight became a pink/reddish color signs that the bulb is dying I assume and confirmed by others having the same issue. I found this DIY for those that need it.

I'm still looking for a good replacement bulb will most likely buy stock though. I replaced the angel eyes a few months back pretty much the same procedure as in the DIY linked above I recommend taking off the tire makes the replacement much easier. Good luck!

My car is a 2006 330i Sedan with HID lights. The left side low beam light was dead after 7 years since I bought the car. Dealer was asking for $280 for just checking what was going wrong. I decided to do the replacement myself. So I bought the exactly same HID bulb from amazon which cost me $35, and I used a coin (a quarter) as the only tool to finish the job. Cool?

my problem is not the bulb... Replaced the bulb ($150 for new DS1) and still have the issue. I think it's the ballast. Any ideas or suggestions on where to get a new ballast reasonable? Any DYI guide as well?

All HID vehicles come with stock 4300K HID's. You can choose either 4300K, 5000K, or 6000K bulbs. Any of the 3 will offer you the brightest light output available, the only difference is the Higher Kelvin Temp rating the bluer the light looks. After 6000K the color starts to get into a more purplish color.
