That's really disappointing.

Just curious, I keep reading the HPFP failure stories, some of you are on the third or fourth pump. But I never read any of you asked for a buyback. Why?

Can you tell us which brand of fuel do you normally use, and the octane rating?

Thanks.

Absolutely, I live in Florida so it's always 93 octane but I alternate brands. BP, Chevron, Murphy USA (Wal-Mart), Exxon, Hess, Shell, whatever is closest at the time. They are always name brand fuels though, no gas stations in the middle of nowhere. The general consensus seems to be that Shell is the best for BMW due to lower Ethanol percentages, unfortunately I don't have too many of those around me. I am pretty sure that I have had Shell gas numerous times though!

I think one of the main reasons why there is no after market pump is that bmw knows about this issue. If you drop or fabricate a different pump you run the risk of voiding the whole engine. Bmw has stepped up and at least fixes these things out to 10/100k ... or 120k...

Just curious... How long did it take to replace? How much is it out of pocket?

That's a shame. A 2k11 car with 1500 mi. gets a remanufactured fuel pump that came out of another car. BMW and their famous cost-benefit analysis.

Stepped up, to what? Those letters went out in early 2007. Doesn't take much effort to print and mail more of them out.

Well, I left the car overnight because it was already later in the day and most of the techs had already left. The dealership handled it well, I got a 328i loaner so all it cost me was $8 in gas money. It's a brand new car so if it cost me anything, I would have shitted a brick. I spoke with one of the techs the next day and they said that it is actually a little harder to do this in an N55 because there are more components that have to come off first. My guess is that when one knows what he is doing, this is a process that should probably take no longer than 4-5 hrs including software programming (if new software is available). No one, however; was particularly optimistic about this new pump so who knows . As far as costs to them, I imagine it cost well over a grand, a new HPFP is somewhere in the neighborhood of $720 (from what I've heard) plus 4-5 hrs of labor at probably $90-100 so around $1200 is my best guess.

Whoever has a modded car, it is wise to make sure that particular part (fuel pump) on your car does not get its warranty voided because it will cost in the long run.

Wow this is ridiculous. I would expect this from BMW.. How can you sell a new model car with known problems? that's borderline false advertising and consumer fraud

As bad as this is, I guess it means they will keep researching

This motor will power the 740, 535, x6, x5, x3, , maybe x1?, 335, 135, and probably some others I missed

So they need to address this. For n54, that means we may get a fix by the time 6 or 8 years rolls around.

Maybe not...my 933 pump has given me 2500 trouble free miles so far and BMW has got to do something with all those old pumps laying around the factory

OP ... sorry to hear about your hpfp ...hope you have better luck with the 933 pump
