So I used "REST" for the first time yesterday
And it worked pretty good! Parked waiting to go in to a class, and had some decent heat for several minutes with the car off.
So, don't forget about the REST button this winter

God I love the REST button! I use it all winter. I think for the cars without it, it's instead the ALL button or something, the one that matches the two side's temperatures together.

I think "Rest" was taken away in 2010 on some models and replaced with a second automatic climate control for passenger or All?
Eitherway, I loved my rest button in the winter |

Might code that myself, although i do like the ALL button. I hate having to set the temp on each side.

^ REST allows residual heat from the engine to filter into the cabin while the engine is off to keep the car warm without keeping it running. It's useful for people who might for example jump out of their car briefly while it's cold outside and want it to stay warm for when they return shortly after, or for people who need to sit waiting in their car for a short period of time.
And yes, REST was replaced with ALL around 2010. But cars with an ALL button can be coded so that button works as a REST button (not sure if the reverse is possible). The irritating issue though is that there's absolutely NO reason that BMW couldn't have designed that button to serve both functions since REST is only used while the car is off and ALL is only used when the car is on. Maybe they just couldn't think of what label to use for such a button.

You use it in cold weather to keep your car warm.
Shut the car off and it keeps the heat circulating for 30 minutes (I think?) because it keeps the water pump running. It's pretty damn awesome over the winter.

Great feature. I use it all the time in the winter. I never could understand why they would replace that function with "ALL" instead of incorporating it into the same button.

Does it really keep the water pump running? I kind of don't like that thought for some reason, lol. (since its running more than it has to and can crap out sooner than later)

My 2001 W203( mercedes C240) has this. This technology has been out for well over a decade. I use it on my benz and my e90 all the time.
Water pump on? Will it cause any premature wear on the WP? Shit I might not use it as much. is WP covered under CPO? |
