Anyone in Cyprus with the new iDrive??

Hi everyone!

I have ordered an E92 with the Professional Navigation System in September. I was recently informed that it has finished production

and it should arrive in about a month...

Anyway, as I was told in another post, my car should have the new iDrive!

I was just wondering if anyone else in here has or has seen the new iDrive in Cyprus..?

I've seen it once or twice

last I checked, GPS wasnt working in Cyprus though.. right?

I was told by the reps that it does work now. You've seen the new iDrive in Cyprus but the navigation wasn't working? That's weird..

not even google maps has street maps of Cyprus. Are you sure the new maps include Cyprus, because 2008-2 does not.

I'm in the south part, the Republic of Cyprus. I know Google doesn't have the roads of Cyprus but there are navigation systems that do.. There are also maps for the Mapfactor Navigator on windows mobile.

I am in Cyprus too. I va ordered an E90 and its coming with navigation System but I could not find out if Cyprus is incuded in the maps. I think not.

There are GPS maps of from Garmin.

Garmin does not make maps themselves they buy it from someone, typically Navteq (which is also what BMW used up to November 2008 production).

The new iDrive (from November 2008 production) uses TeleAtlas maps instead.

In any case you can go to the Navteq and TeleAtlas websites and browse their maps to see if they include Cyprus, which they do not.

As such maps will have to come from some other source (perhaps a local mapping company), but I figure the likelihood of such maps being included is pretty much zero.

In the long term your best hope is that Navteq and/or TeleAtlas

maps Cyprus themselves
get to an agreement with the local mapping vendor
one of them buys the local mapping vendor

Geomatic is the company that mapped Cyprus. www.geomatic.com.cy
You can call there and ask for information if they are going to cooperate with navteq to include their maps in the car navigation systems. At the moment their map of Cyprus works on Garmin GPS and on Nokia mobile phones.

It is something like google maps but only for Cyprus

Both of them already have maps of Cyprus, but could surely use some more help. Not that it helps you with the BMW, but perhaps it will help in the long run to have maps of Cyprus more freely/readily available.
