Cobb Tune for 335is

After working with Cobb Tuning for the past couple of weeks, the initial 93 octane map is now up and running for the 335is. Based on the dyno runs with the tune, torque maxed out at 373 to the wheels (compared to 322 stock), and hp maxed out at 300 (262 stock). Runs were completed on a Mustang Dyno in Austin triple digit temps. After a weekend of driving in both manual and automatic modes, the power is extremely smooth. The car feels noticeably faster. Cobb will be working on additional maps in the coming weeks including 91 octane. I'm sure they will update us when it's ready to be released.

Thanks for posting this.

Is it just me or do those numbers seem a little low though? I'm pretty sure I've seen some stock 335is' dyno at or above those numbers. I guess the heat soak could be a factor, but I can't see it making that much of a difference.

Mustang dynos are known to read low, so I would just take into consideration his gains. which were +38hp +52tq
Im confused how the tuning/torque works with the 335is considering the overboost function, is that eliminated?

Overboost is like being tuned at a certain RPM or throttle position. Now he is "overboosting" all the time. Remember the main differences between the 335is and 335i is the cooling pieces and software, not the actual turbos. There could be some upgrades internally on the motor, but to my knowledge it's just extra cooling pieces and Software.

this is good news. however, are its low numbers just because of the insane heat? the % gain from stock is only 14.5%/15.8% hp/tq whereas the cobb website states 30%/38% increase for their 335i chip. this is basically half the performance, is it entirely due to the heat? or maybe because it is still in the stages of testing?

kind of sad that the 335is and 335i will be the same if they both are chipped. i am always hoping that the 335is engine can muster more somehow because of its.....extra cooling fan? -_-

should we expect DCT's to have some sort of advantage when comparing to manual 335i's/335is' or steptronic 335i's?

o well, go cobb!

As mentioned above Mustang Dyno's simply read low. Just look at the power gained.

At the end of the day a tuned IS and I should be nearly identical. The difference would be at a road course where the better cooling of the IS will likely avoid any over-heating limp modes.

Any other supporting mods or just bone-stock with a tune?

It's hard to compare different dynos in different parts of the country. The percent gains look great though and we're really happy we got to do some 335is testing (thanks M3Cat)! Because it has more power from the factory, the percent gains are less than our standard 335i mapping. Both cars have the same potential for peak power, but the extra cooling mods on the 335is will probably prove worthwhile at the racetrack. We learned some great things and we're hard at work on Stage 2 available...soon

Any word on whether this tune will work on the new 1M?

Ian - Is the Stage 1 tune for the 335is compatible with 6MT or only DCT for now? Any dynos of the 91 octane tune?

The numbers are correct. Mustang dynamometer numbers are not to brag about, but they are real. Since the Cobb tune got 40whp over 335is stock, it means that it gets 60whp over the 335i stock, which is correct. You can't expect a Stage 1 tune to bring insane power levels, it's just not safe with the stock cats and intercooler in place.

I wonder if the 335is overboost is still working with the Cobb tune in place ? It would seem so from the graphs. As far as I know, the JB4/Procede filter out the overboost function.

I agree - from the graphs it looks like the overboost is still in place, which is intriguing.

The power increase is definitely a day and night difference. Thanks for sharing this with the rest community! The 335is and 335i are essentially identical as they both use the N54 motor. The only difference between the two cars is of course that the 335is has a few cooling upgrades that the 335i do not have. What that means of course is that the 335is is less prone to over heating issues.

i dyno'd on that same mustang dyno back in April - it was 93 degrees in there.

made 69hp and 92ftlbs over "stock".

when i went in, i already had the ETS FMIC and the BMS DCI.

still impressed at the final numbers: 326hp and 392ftlbs
