Voltage Regulator

Hey the car i have is a 07 e92. When I tried start it on Saturday it wouldn't start the battery was reading 2.5v so I changed it and I got 13.4v. When I got it to started the transmission warning, abs, airbag and much all the lights came on. When I revved the car the dome light would go off and so would the navi. This is usually the worst part because at this point the red overheating light comes on and the car seems like it starts to over heat. The check engine light came on and was p1891. I searched and saw it may be it excessive voltage. I checked the voltage and im getting 17-18v when the car is running. I figure it may be the voltage regulator, does anyone know where its located or have any ideas?

It's a replaceable part on the alternator.
