i have polished and cleaned car today but windows seemed to be a pain what do you lot use

Autoglym Car Glass Polish is good for cleaning them and not leaving streaks. It goes on like a polish and you have to buff it off so its not like a traditional glass cleaner....but it is effective.

If you prefer a spray then Autoglym Fast Glass is good but if you want the very best of the sprays, then it's got to be Swissvax Crystal (it is 4x the price of everything else though!)

Detailing spray works.

Don't use it on the windscreen though as it does leave a film that does not work well with wipers.

im going to try that on friday then i have used fast glass today but was shocking. what do you apply it with and wipe it off with ?

Inside I'm still trying to find something that will give a guaranteed easy streak free finish. Generally any glass cleaner works as long as you buff it afterwards.

Outside I use Carlack68 Glass Sealant. Works great and water just beads off at any sort of speed.

I tend to use the Autoglym glass polish and am always happy with the results.

It does however remind me a lot of Windowlene (the pink stuff you get from Tesco) which is also rather good (and a lot cheaper) and does guarantee a streak free finish

Try claying the glass using fast glass as a lubricant! It's mad how much crap you can lift off with the clay and well, your glass will actually look like glass again after!

Autoglym Car Glass Polish is admittedly quite difficult to use properly but does provide a very deep cleanse and crystal clear finish. It is a true cream and so needs to be polished into the glass fully and then buffed off completely. Auto Glym Fast Glass is a convenient spray which basically just wipes off (especially if using a decent microfibre cloth). I use the AG CGP about every 3 months and in between use AG FG.

The AG FG is safe to use on plastics, interior trim etc. so is quite a useful product to have around.

there is a relatively new brand called autofinesse which has produced an awesome glass cleaner, crystal I think its called. Its better than anything Ive used, inside or outside.

mega's comment about claying is also spot on, you'll be surprised!

Never thought of claying - thanks for the tip. From delivery I've had problems with the glass on my F10 and, despite trying everything mentioned by other posters and more besides, I've never managed to get it properly clean.

Lint free cloth OR scrunched up newspaper works just as well!!

Claying works well - has saved me buying new wipers before when I was convinced they were just smearing the screen.

A good clay using Megs Quik Detailer as the lube and they work a treat again after.

I use the Megs detailer for the glass, shadowline, paint, even the wheels! - ace stuff!!!

Have G3 on mine at the moment. Doesn't repell at low speeds as claimed, but good at 40 mph +. Every 3 months or so, clay, bar keepers friend, apply G3. Then normally use AG. Fast glass after wash. Of all the products I've tried I really rate AG FG for day to day cleaning. It's also good for intior and for getting rid of flies off the front of the car.

Some good ideas here....never thought of the claying the windows myself but will try that.

I too use Car Glass Polish every couple of months for a deep clean and then FG weekly. However, on the inside of the front and rear screens, I ONLY use Car Glass Polish - the angle of the screens can make it difficult to get a good wipe with normal spray-type cleaners so the polish-type product is easier to get a good result from.

The cloth you use with the products is key to a good finish so for Car Glass Polish, I apply with a slightly damp paper towel and then use a lint-free white cloth to buff it off with (note: not a microfibre....oddly, the polish doesn't seem to respond well to being taken off with one of those). For the spray-type products like FG though, I have a waffle weave towel which works absolutely brilliantly. I also never use any sort of rain repellant on my windscreen - IMO, they're all shit, even the much lauded G-Techniq products....every single brand of rain repellant smears which is most noticeable at night. However, on all the side and rear windows, rain repellant is a must and this also makes the windows a lot easier to keep clean.

Agree with Palmnuts about rain repellents. It's a nice novelty on the motorway not having to use your wipers, even in the heaviest rain. However, at low speeds the wipers are of course still necessary and I find the smearing unbearable. At night time, it is simply dangerous IMO. On the side and rear windows they are fine. Even help repel dew and mild frost formation.

If using a clay bar on the windscreen, do avoid using the spray lubes or quick detailers that are often recommended for clay bars. They contain silicone polymers and can cause smearing by the wipers. Auto Glym Fast Glass works as a decent lubricant (and is silicone free) or use a mild concentration of car shampoo with water. Alternatively, there are some brands of clay bar that can be used with just water.

I had the same view of repellants using the stuff from halfords. I have been quite impressed by G3 and not had any squeaking or smearing. My only complaint is the repelling at speed become quite hypnotic.

It does bugger all on the rear window of my E92 though......

The quality of cloth makes a lot of difference. Always need to use a clean micro fibre and remember not to wash with fabric conditioner or you'll always have smears regardless of the product.

Amazing how cheap and simple it is - but really works!!

Back in the days, I use to use scrunched up newspaper and water, would clean the windows to looking new! The trick was to use good a quality newspaper such as the financial times so that the ink won't come off
