Removing sticker residue from paint.. Go Gone doesnt work...

Some asshole kids put a sticker on the hood of my car (the "hello my name is" kind). The car sat in the sun for a week or so before i was able to get my hands on cleaning it off. I managed to get the white part of the sticker off, but there is still that sticker residue left. Its not sticky to the touch, looks like a thin layer of plastic.
So i tried to remove it with clay bar, with goo gone, and the dishwasher liquid, but with no success. Any ideas what else i can try? Acetone? Paint thinner? WD-40?
I want something that won't damage the paint.
I'm really desperate here, any advise???

Mothers Paint Cleaner .... A few differents brands make paint cleaner... I used mothers when I had a sticky issue lol

Thanks for all the suggestions.
So i just tried WD-40... Didnt help at all..
Then tried my girlfriend's nail polish remover.. It contains acetone, but that just removed a bit of the residue, and the sticker is still there... Of course before trying acetone i tested on an inconspicuous part of a bumper - no side effects.

Will Mothers paint cleaner or 3M remover be more effective then acetone, or am i screwed and will have to take it to the body shop?

paint cleaner has worked for me for everything... i had took my badges off after they were on for 2 years (i bought a cpo), and had really bad marking on the car.. paint cleaner, towel and lotsa scrubbing. then through a coat of wax on the trunk. looks perfect now.

Are you sure there is still residue, or is the clear coat marred? If it feels smooth, you might need a polish.

Have you tried to heat it up with something? I've taken a blow dryer (like the kind your wife would use) and had great success with stuff like that. Then I follow it with wax, which gets the rest of it.

Use a hair dryer and heat up the remaining parts of the sticker. You may need to use a plastic razor blade to peel it back, then use the 3M Adhesive Remover to remove any glue residue. Most auto stores have 3M or Prep Sol, you can also use full strength iso-propyl alcohol

acetone is used to remove nail polish so it will do damage to the paint. best thing to do is to put rubbing alcohol on it and let it sit for ~10 mins or so. make sure the alcohol does not evaporate. after 10 min, clean it off with a MF cloth. make sure u dont reuse the MF cloth tho. GL.

Finally got it out! Im soo happy!

It took a heat gun and some generic nail polish remover. Even the paint cleaner wouldnt help. Im happy to say that there is no noticeable damage to the paint from the nail polish remover.

Just one of the good reasons to have a girlfriend

Dear don't worry about the removal of the residue. You can use different things for the removal of residue. You can try the thinner,petrol,spirit or the alcohol for its removal. All these things work pretty good. Try any of these. Good luck.

yeah seriously, do NOT use paint thinnner or non paint-safe adhesive remover.

I have had good luck with Tarminator as well.

Wd40, heat up with hair dryer and carefully use a card like a old bank card or nectar card etc to gently scrape off, be carefull and heat up well to prevent scratches

Use adhesive remover to get the glue off if its sticky..that usually does the job
