E91 330d ECU Bosch DDE 7 Repair - corrosion? tips? any electronics gurus?

hi,

before i break something, can someone confirm how to remove the connector from my ecu?

i've got at the black connector, and have pulled out the tabs horizontally from each end about 5mm. so should the connector now just lift off? still seems firmly held in place? any tips?

thanks

j

ok, worked it out, you pull the tabs all the way out - about 30mm - this levers the connectors off automatically.

how do you open the ecu box? taken out the 6xT25 screws, but it seems glued down at one side? is it safe to open?!?

i'm on the hunt for a dry joint which may prove a futile waste of time!

after a bit of digging, i realise the ecu was probably sealed when new - with some kind of silicon sealant perhaps. i can use heat to help remove, but it seems like the seal is already broken 50% of the way around the ecu. i assume this is not normal and may explain my gremlins when the car has warmed up....

anyone checked if their dde7 is fully sealed?

tried using some heat but at one side it is really stuck down.

here are some photos - there seems to be some crystalline deposits on the pcb - maybe this is corrosion? anyone recognise this? what is the fix, scrape it off, or will this now be scrap?

unfortunately i appear to be talking to myself at the moment, anyone know anyone or a forum that may help?

It's rather alarming that your going to these depths to get into your ECU without any idea of fixing anything you may find!

yes, but its a bit of adventure.

turns out it isn't corrosion, its the sealant coming through holes in the pcb.

i've had a look, but its a long time since i soldered any surface mounted components, and they are tiny these days! everything looks fine, no sign of any damage or obvious cracking or weak joints.

this is going into the too difficult bin. its back in the car now and it again seems to works fine.

back to the drawing board!

You don't say what problems you are experiencing.

My advice:

Read codes
Identify faulty unit
Talk to ECU Testing if fault codes lead you to believe there is a fault with the ECU etc

http://www.ecutesting.com/

ECU testing sorted out my failed DSC/ABS Unit very effectively.

BBA Reman were a waste of time

Did you manage to fix your gremlins?
I took my DDE apart and one side was supposed to be glued but it was not. The glue is not glue, it is a thermal paste that when cured it hardens. On my DDE there was nothing sealed on the other three sides of the cover. I got the cover straight (it was bent over the area where the thermal compound was) and put some new thermal compound and closed it back. Only time will tell if my gremlins are sorted.
