Stock LED AE in 2011+

Hey Everyone,

I've been looking for a while to find out what BMW actually uses in their stock LED angel eyes but have been unsuccessful in my search. I even tried contacting local dealerships and sadly many of them didn't even know the cars had LED lighting in the rings.

Does anyone know how the rings are set up inside LCI E90 as far as the optic placements go?

And does anyone know what they actually use to light their rings?

They use LED, that's for sure. If you are looking to retrofit it to your 325i, that will not be possible.

Sorry I need to update that. I bought an E90 2011 328i. I figured if I could just buy the LED bulbs they use in their E92's then I'd rather have a completely stock looking headlight.

It's ok. I just try to give info based on the OP's cars

You cannot buy the LED's that they use in the 2011 E92's because the angel eye design is different from all other models. Even the 2011 E92 differs from the newer 5 series in design.

If you have a 2011 328i, you will have a couple options. First, I need to know if your car has halogen or xenon headlights. If you have xenon, your headlights at night will be a bright white, and not a yellow color.

If you have E90 LCI w/ Halogen lights, you can still use the LED Angel Eyes for an E90 Pre-LCI and retrofit it.

Here's a link to the DIY retrofit guide: http://www.**********s.com/images/Pr...ye%20Guide.pdf

Hope that helps!

Well put.

The LED unit in the E92 headlights is a massive, custom designed beast. The rings are also completely different from the E92 Pre-LCI or E90 LCI. It's actually quite intriguing, I'll see if I can find the schematic for it.

That'd be awesome, thanks! I have the LCI Xenons.I didn't really want to spend $200+ on LUX, I think I'd rather a silverstar or PIAA bright white halogens instead.

Addition: Just want to get this straight...Do the stock LED angel eyes even have a replaceable bulb?

At this point in time, the only thing you can do to the LCI E92's is do an OSS or LS3 ring conversion, but that will completely remove the 2011 angel eye system. Basically, it is pointless currently.

If you have xenons you have quite a few options, as pre-lci E92's bulbs will be inter-compatible with your car. LUX is 175 shipped BTW.

So on the E90 LCI (with xenons--which you seem to have) you can replace the factory H8 bulb with another color-coated H8 bulb. It won't be perfect, but it's cheap, and some people like it. LUX is the best PnP option out there for evenness though. I think it's worth it!

And on the E92 LCI, the stock LED angel eyes don't have an off-the-autozone-shelf user replaceable bulb--but if the unit goes out, its a $500 part from the dealer to replace (as far as I know...it might be cheaper, but not by much)

While this is true, the LUX H8 V3 is 245 + shipping (what he needs for his E90 LCI) vs. 175 + shipping for the E90 Pre-LCI (which I gather that you have)!

So while I wait for the LUX H8's for my birthday

I went ahead and bought PIAA Extreme White H8 rated at 4150K. Anyone ever use these? I'm putting them in tonight and I'll post some pics of the change. Hope they look good.

Spoke to the stealer...LED module is $3xx+ and I haven't found anyone or anywhere with a schematic or replacement. Same goes with the brow light. My AE on passenger side blinks from bright to dim while the brow light is just completely done. Anyone?
