Trunk floor subwoofer rattle

Hello,

A few days ago I made a custom fiber subwoofer enclosure which fits the trunk floor compartment. I used my 12" hertz which gives great results. I used to have a sealed subwoofer just facing the back in the trunk, but it's just taking too much space and looks too ghetto. I based myself on the BSW uf110 subwoofer and I think i did it pretty wel.

The bass in the car is excellent, great deep bass shakes. Problem: when outside the car, it rattles like crazy. Please help me eliminate this problem.

What I did: - Put foam behind license plate
- Screw to hold the enclosure to one of the trunk screws.
- Put foam around enclosure

Picture of this setup:

Not sure what to do about the rattle, I'd be interested myself as I'll be putting in a sub in the same location very soon also.

Does your woofer have enough volume in that area? I ended up going with a JL 10w3 because there wasn't enough volume for a 12" (maybe the Hertz woofer just requires less *******.

Good luck with resolving the rattle!!

Hertz es300 is typically designed for high output in small enclosures. However, I think the major part of the rattles are caused because the 12" doesn't perfectly 'fit' the hole (because the compartment is just too small). Made a video of the 'problem'. You can hear the rattle from the sub even when the trunk lid is open. Also the back plate in the trunk is lowering the output I guess.

Would love to hear what others have to say, I'm anticipating I may have similar issues.
Does your sub hit the trunk floor when it's lowered? My enclosure will have the sub sitting about 1.5" below the floor level, to avoid this. Does the floor reduce any bass output when it's resting over the sub?

Here another example:

The bass inside the car is a big improvement, just like with my sealed box (same sub). The only problem i'm facing is the rattling of the trunk (not all songs).

The enclosure is touching the trunk compartment floor with a foam, to avoid shakes, but it's resting on the floor yes.

I have to admit that the bass was slightly better with the sealed box, but this is just way more stealth modus. Also, the gain of my amplifier is only half, because otherwise it is just too loud (to combine with crappy stock speakers (no tweeters)).

Just based on the video (it's hard to get an accurate sound sample from a video) it sounds "normal". With the trunk closed it didn't rattle bad at all. Hell, my factory L7 subs under the seats rattle like crazy from the outside. Inside the trunk I did not hear anything that alarmed me. However, it seems that most rattles that show up come from the rear deck. Take the rear deck apart and sandwich dense foam between the rear shelf and the metal chassis.
