Looking for a new car

I really want a 6 pot after some research but cant find many within my budget, if I go for higher mileage say 100-110k miles will they still be able to last me decent while as I would want to keep it at least for a few years.

I bought mine at 100k and I see absolutely no reason why it wouldn't go for as long as I decide keep it. With decent regular maintenance the 6 pots are bulletproof. I'm certain I'll see mine well into 200k+....

I had a e36 316 when i passed driving, from 80k it went up to 192k until a van totalled the car otherwise was still going strong.

As what sirleeofroy said so long as the car has a good history and well maintained you should be fine.

Currently own a 330i (N53) and a happy owner, purchased at 90k and now on 112k.

IMO high mileage cars just mean all the issues have been resolved.

I bought my e46 318i saloon with 132K miles a few years ago it was the most reliable car i've ever owned. In fact i still see it being driven around!

The consensus is that these engines are bulletproof if looked after properly, etc. which is good to know. I know this isn't an e46 forum, but is this consensus also true in the case of the S54 engine?

I'm in a similar position to the OP, in my case I am really interested in getting an e46 m3, but it seems the price on these gets exponentially higher when you start looking at anything below 100k miles.

yup,my e46 330d has plenty of rear arch rust, none on fronts, which would of been easy to replace,,the boot/subframe floor is fine though with 148k on the clock
