Yeah but those GTR's are not sold here and if you do add them in then you also have to add in all the special edition M3's and the M3 GTS ...

So basically a loaded M3/4 has caught up to a GTR in pricing (available models in Canada)

Can't wait to see your new M!

Hi Folks:

Can anyone guide me how to get a vehicle history of all repair work done at dealership? I have tried couple of dealers but got brain dead SA's because I know I was able to get it for my ZHP without any issues.

I can provide the VIN number if someone can help.

Thanks!

When I bought my E90 335xi I called the Brossard BMW dealership and they told me all repair work done, recalls, and future maintenance...

So we found the usual: water pump would have to be changed soon (170k and original pump) and some gasket leaks.

I'm contemplating changing the water pump now for ~$900 or stick with "don't fix what ain't broke" and wait until it dies on me in the middle of nowhere.

I've been reading a lot about when people's water pumps go and it really varies from 80k to more than 200k. And there's no real way of checking if all is well.
The inline 6 that the E90 328 uses is pretty rock solid as well as the rest of the E90 platform. At 170Km, other cars would have similar or worse issues. Unless you are under the hood already, I wouldnt change it. Gasket/seal leaks are always a pain; as they are symptoms/precursor of problems to come.

It's a question of finding a dealer that is willing to work with you. If it is not worth their while, they may not have any incentive to play.

$105k is with all the bells and whistles. And there are much of those bells and whistles on the F8X compared to the E9X. I was still shocked when I saw that $105k sticker at the auto show though . You can get a base M5 for less...

My pretty well equipped E92 M3 came out at $85900 back in 2008 (excluding dealer fees, prep and tax). If I consider 2% inflation over 6 years, that is about $96700 in 2014 dollars.

The new F8X M3/M4 now comes with a lot of standard features that were optional on the E92 (Nav+MDrive $3200, 19" wheels $2000, Premium sound $1200, Adjustable lumbar support and seat width $1100). Further, EDC is now $900 instead of $2000. Some options are a bit more expensive like extended leather than went up from $1200 to $1500 and metallic paint is no longer standard at $895.

So, if I spec out and M4 to the same level as my E92, it comes out at $82200. That is $3700 less than in 2008 ($14500 less when actualizing to present value of money). Not bad at all...

They actually lowered some stuff later in the E9X cycle. Like the competition package which offered different wheels and the active suspension that came in at $1800.

I guess the biggest increase is the carbon ceramic brakes. Those were never offered on the E9X.

Guess they had to offer them since Audi added them as options on the RS5.

By the way my friend picked up a brand new M5 last year for 98k! Sick that the M3/4 can cost as much as an M5.

BIG discounts on the M5. He got over 20k off and it was brand new not a demo.

The strength of the Canadian dollar has to show somewhere. Further, they need to keep folks interested in buying new ones even at end of the life cycle .

The price of yours did come pretty close to my '08 though.

There is the Premium ($4500), Executive ($4500/$5000 M4/M3) and Technology packages ($1500) that are pretty useless IMO that tally up a whopping $10500/$11000 on the M4 and M3 respectively. Add LED lights for $2000 and the CCB for $8500 and that it is when it goes crazy .

Agreed, you can get pretty good discounts on the M5s. They struggle to get them off the lots. One of the salesmen was trying to get me into one and offered $10000 off right off the bat. Too big, fat and heavy of a car IMO. The M5 isn't getting too good reviews from the press either and loosing almost every comparo. I really hope they did not scew up the M3/M4 .

Pretty sure it's gonna be good! Soundwise it may suck , but performance wise it has to deliver, with all those Pro drivers testing it endlessly on the Ring during development

That is a pretty impressive build. That would have been quite a feat to have fit and mated that engine and drive train to that chassis.

Quick question about temperature gauges on BMWs. Just got my first Bimmer at 170k KM and as far as I've found, still has the stock thermostat and water pump.

I've noticed that after 10 minute drives, the temp gauge barely moves at all, even if the car was in the garage. And the longest drive that I've been on where I was watching the meter was 30-40min and even then, the gauge was still a couple notches under the halfway point.

I know its cold here, but is that normal in BMWs? I've lived my life with Japanese cars and they always stay in the middle of the temp gauge. Is my thermostat going?

The coolant temp gauge should be near the half way point +/- 25% depending on the temp. Where does it rest?

I could help you. Could tell you what was done under warranty and depending on what dealer it was taken too I could help you also.

Give me a shout when you want

It rests 1-2 notches below the center, which is 120 degrees. If the numbers are accurate, then it rests around 100 degrees.

I'll be going on a long drive tomorrow and see what it does.

Wait........ temp gauge? What temp gauge? The 328i never had a temp gauge?

Can't remember driving a car that didn't have a temp gauge...

btw thats the highest I've seen mine go. will keep an eye on it on my next long drive and see if it gets to the middle where i would expect it to.
