Audi A6 Bi-Turbo / SQ5 noises

Been researching both the A6 Bi TDI and the SQ5, both have the same engine and both have exhaust sound actuators.

They are reported to give V8 type noises and the Youtube videos are pretty decent sounding, has anyone driven either of these to get a real life perspective.

Call me fickle but something like that could pull me away from BMW as it sounds a lot of fun!!

Sounds awesome!

Really does not sound like a derv.

Just not keen on the A6 or Q5
Bit too big...

Last time my A7 was in for service, they gave me this BiTurbo version as a loaner (BTW the loan cars I get from my Audi dealer are a refreshing change to the long line of 118s and Minis I got from BMW)

As you can see, there are some rather interesting options on the MMI

I have to admit that having read about this previously I was somewhat sceptical but it genuinely works and unlike that stupid thing we all saw on the Clio on Topgear the other night, this can be heard outside of the car as well.

It genuinely does work and sounds fantastic especially when driving through town. Add to that the BiTurbo engine and I was driving round with a stupid grin on my face all day. Pretty much sold on what I want next.

BUT

There is always the nag in the back of your head because even though it sounds fantastic, you know it's fake to the point that the guys in the dealer were telling me that they have a customer who has already hacked the system and managed to get some rock music playing out of it instead

PS

I thought I had read somewhere that BMW were putting this onto the 640d

Given the sounds are switchable you can turn it off or make it considerably quieter when desired but when you are in a town with lots of high buildings you should be able to turn a few heads.

Just need a bit of Audi depreciation to hit in to make the things more affordable.

What's the site to use to calculate the cost using a PCP, Audi don't include it on their website unlike BMW and what should the residual be set at after three years.

Yup, A 2013 Audi S4 that I test drove had this, and it does sound like a muted V8 when in dynamic mode, and with the Supercharged 333bhp V6 in the S4, I was left with a very big grin.

S4 now ordered, build week 36 - can't wait.

My old man has had his SQ5 for a couple of months and I have driven it a few times. It does actually manage to give the engine a deep rumble and I was surprised that it worked. But when stationary only from the rear of the car. if you go near the bonnet then you hear only deisel noises.

The most surprising thing about it is the speed it accellerates considering it is a big deisel car with not 'massive' bhp.

OK. 313bhp is generally alot but in a car that size with 4x4 and a big heavy dsg gearbox I don't class it as 'massive', it is just surprising that it gets to 60 that quick. It has some decent torque in it aswell though.

Call any Audi dealership and ask for the business manager to give you a quote on a PCP, he'll send you the quote via email.

Audi are currently contributing £1900 to any PCP plan, combine this with current online broker discounts of around 12%, it's a good time to buy!

I've been thinking long and hard about choosing an Audi as my next car. I absolutely love the looks of the A7 and A6.

HOWEVER

PCP prices at this moment in time make the A7 more expensive than the Merc CLS and the BMW 6 Series.....by a considerable margin. The A6 is some £200 more than the BMW 5 series and the new E class. Audi tend to do a PCP fire-sale at least twice a year, when they almost give old stock away on PCP's - There should be one coming up very shortly (I reckon Sep/Oct) - so going to wait and see.

Surely the massive discounts on the A6 offset any poor PCP deals although maybe the residuals are a bit poor too keeping the payments up.

An SQ5 blatted past me this afternoon (I was walking ), the first I've seen, and must admit it did sound nice & meaty. Looked the part too with it's quad exhausts. I was quite impressed by my fleeting meet up.

Yes the quad exhausts does give it a meaty look for sure. Have not heard one yet in reality

Can't be long until BMW fit a similar sound actuator.
