I do feel the car is a little quieter and the engine runs much smoother. Love it.

Two observations thus far. 1) For the first time ever my car stalled. I have no idea if the stall was related to the HPR fuel or was due, say, to my EGR block. That said, I have been running my EGR plates for six weeks without any incidents. I ran Carly post stall and only got the usual EGR related codes. In short, the only thing that changed was the fuel.
Good news, I have had fewer regens. That has to be related to the fuel. For the first time ever, I went through an entire tank of diesel without a regen. |

Chief there are a few other people who have had random stall issues. I dont know if or how they solved those issues, but that has happened to a few people in the past. I doubt its related to the fuel or you would have bigger problems

Ugh... I did a thread search on stall and came up with random stuff. Do you recall a common culprit for stalling? The car drives perfectly BTW. I think you are right that the fuel is unlikely to be the culprit.

There is also G diesel that is available near Reno, NV. Made from natural gas to liquid conversion.
http://www.clearrefining.com/availability.html Also goes by synDiesel in Texas http://www.syndiesel.com |

Having run two tanks now I can say that I don't notice any difference in drivability between hpr and normal d2. It appears that hpr gets measurably better highway mileage and lower city mileage. My distance to empty display to typically doesn't change more than about 30 miles on a given trip including a cold start and traffic. With hpr, distance to empty swings wildly as much as about 100 miles on a trip. Any amount of time driving steady state on the freeway sees the distance rocket up as though you are going 70 but not using any fuel at all. It's definitely different in that aspect.

Any more thoughts on HPR?

Did a highway test run and got the following. OBD is usually 5-10% under so I wouldn't be surprised if this was in the 43mpg range.
I reset once I got up to speed on the fwy (60W to 10W). Targeting approx. 80mph (speedometer) the whole way. Car had me (150lbs) plus three passengers (approx. 400lbs). Ambient temperature in the 80s (F). I haven't been able to get fuel economy this high before, but it's probably due to a combination of CBU cleaning and HPR. Do you guys without HPR regularly see these numbers under the conditions I listed above?

Every time I drive on flat ground without traffic is down I-5, which also happens to be windy constantly. Best case scenario is a light cross wind in which case with normal D-2 I get around 40 (indicated) going actual 75. I did the trip to fresno this weekend with about a 30 mph constant wind and going 80 mph (actual) and got 32.5 MPG on HPR. Not a very good comparison considering my insta-mpg meter was swinging from right on the 50 mark when the wind was quiet all the way down to 30 when wind was blowing. Wind sucks! I was hoping to get a good comparison on this trip but the wind just wasnt having that.

The combustion byproducts of HPR are different from those of D2 and regens are triggered by the DDE based on measurements expected from D2 combustion. Thus, a certain measurement may be lower running HPR and yet total particulate matter may remain the same or higher. Thus, DPF may need regens just as often, but are not triggered by the HPR combustion byproducts. Backpressure in the DPF could then be causing combustion issues including stalls. Not saying its the case but its plausible. |
