New diesel fuel
My neighbor share this with me knowing my girlfriends 335 is a diesel. Has anyone looked into it? Sorry for the weird picture I was trying not to cast a shadow.

This looks like biodiesel, imported, and with its own acronym - instead of just calling it what it is.

I've been doing research on this. Not considered biodiesel as its properties are different. But it is a bio fuel. Semantics, I know, but the point is it is different.
I've been meaning to try it. Car just came back from carbon cleaning at Crevier. I was at the Fullerton station last night but decided against it. I want to get a butt-dyno baseline of CBU vs no CBU with conventional diesel. I'll put in a full tank on Saturday. Only thing that worries me is the low lubricity of this fuel. Even less than the CARB ULSD we love so much. FWIW, I never tried Propel's biodiesel, which has been replaced by HPR.

---- What I'd like to know is the Cetane value of that diesel. Our cars ideally would like a cetane 51 or higher, and US diesel is a min of 40 in most places and in air quality non-attainment areas its 48 like here in Houston. |

Cetane is a crazy 75. Lubricity of pure HPR has scar in the 600um-range, and per the spec they use an additive to bring it down below 460um. Here are some interesting reads: http://www.arb.ca.gov/fuels/lcfs/2a2...rpt-031513.pdf http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...biodiesel.html

And to bringing the thread back to Diesel HPR, it appears to me that this new fuel will help minimize carbon buildup and increase time between the DPF regens. Diesel HPR produces 34.2% less particulate matter than conventional. Also produces 14.3% less NOx, which may help SCR or use less DEF (although that make the leaking tank situation worse...) It's kind of nuts how clean this fuel is. LSD is <500ppm. ULSD is <15ppm. HPR is <5ppm. More literature: http://bioenergy.ucdavis.edu/downloa..._paraffins.pdf

Damn. Closest station to me in TX is 1440 miles away. I get enough strange looks fueling up already, probably even stranger if I asked for the diesel HPR

The hpr makes the engine noise a little quieter. (Placebo?) the biggest difference is in my older vw tdi, there is almost no smoke now and what little bit there is is lighter in color then before. I am getting a cleaner burn. In my x5d I can't tell due to the emissions equipment, but so far I like propel diesel hpr, it is close to my house and cheap as well.
My mpg's seem to be lower by 2-3 mpg in my vw but don't have enough tanks to tell for sure yet. The x5d was all city miles on its first tank so can tell yet.. I'll ask my friend to post up his mpg's in his 335d and I'll update later on my results. Last edited by temporaptor; 08-20-2015 at 06:14 PM.. |

sold about a mile from my house. I don't see any downside here. am I missing something? looks like I can stop pissing away money on additives as an additional bonus
