09 35d CBU Poll

I'm curious to see the percentages of 09's that have been diagnosed with CBU. Does it seem that there has been more instances with year 2011?

If so, do you think more 2011's where sold? I just have not read to many owners of 09's that had CBU. I know I have not had this issue (yet)..

I don't think the year make is relevant here.

I have 2009 and had cbu buildups, it is just matter of the time.

What mileage do you have on the car?

I noticed he asked about 35d. OP, are you asking about X5 only, or all 2009 M57 engine owners?

Didn't we have a poll like that before and the result was inconclusive. Unless one pulls the intake, one would not know for sure. Only a few had done that so far.

I only have 53k on her. So I would imagine its only a matter of time! I just have not been reading about that many 2009. What mileage did yours show up?

Mine problem have started after 65 closer to 70 maybe.

It is very relative, it depends of how you drive, what are fuel regulations in your state, temperatures outside.

I personally believe you should at least install catch can, from the theory it will help to reduce carbon buildups.

Ideally to have both.
As CBU comes from both of them.

To install a catch can it is an easier job and does not require tuning and will not trigger check engine light

EGR block will trigger a check engine light, to get rid of it correctly needs a full tune and alphabet delete.

09 was the lowest volume year for US 335d. The sales data is out there somewhere, if I remember correctly 09 was pretty slow compared to 2011 and seemed like it was going to keep getting better when it didnt get extended to the F30.

I would rank EGR block as higher need compared to catch can. Some capture more oil than others.

Agree with oil, but CBU consist of two parts oil condensation + soot thru EGR.
Agree?

So trying to remove one part of this will reduce it overall.

I have EGR blocked just not to return to this question
