Ebc Brake Pads

Hey guys,

I've heard a lot about these EBC pads, so I decided to go out and grab a set for the front and rear of my e93.

I decided to get the "red stuff" ebc setup and run them on a brand new set of zimmermann cross drill rotors...

I'm about 150km deep with them, and I cannot tell you how loud they are squealing, it's unbelievable. I'd say its comparable to a ttc bus, probably worse to be honest.

Has anyone dealt with EBC and experienced similar situations?

http://www.hmsmotorsport.com/store/b...s/ebc-redstuff

There are lots of different car forums for those who had this Red stuff and complained about the loud squealing noise. In the end, no real solid solution and it does need proper bedding.

I'm worried I'm going to ruin these rotors too. Should I just try and get a refund and go back to OE textar?

It's your call. It's always a risk when we are trying something else, besides OEM pads.

Thanks man. I contacted the shop that I purchased them from; they are waiting for ebc to release a refund authorization credit. Once I get that I will definitely go back to textar!

A friend of mine, licensed mechanic, has a shop in the gta, downtown area... He obviously knows how to put on brakes.

I'm not talking about a little squeek... I'm talking about louder than a bus... I wish I could upload a voice note cause it's hilarious lmao

I currently have EBC Green Stuff.

Stayed away from red stuff after numerous complaints about noise.

EBC Green Stuff has the OEM bite, no noise, however there is dust.

Bed-in procedure is crucial, also make sure your mechanic put a decent amount of squeal paste on the pads where they contact the caliper.

FROM EBC SITE:
"Redstuff however as a harder compound does take longer to fully bed in to achieve its highest levels of performance (can be up to 1500 miles/2500 Kms urban use) during which time the odd “Chirp” of brake noise may be heard when starting from cold in damp and cold conditions at walking pace speed. One press of the pedal to clear the rotor of any dampness and this disappears to leave EBC Redstuff a pad that inspires confidence in all cars. The motto is be patient give the pads a full chance to bed down."

Each bed in process consists of consecutive HARD braking from 100kph to about 20kph. Each process I did, I kept doing the hard braking cycle about 10 times. New ebc pads will start to smoke up at this point as they are burning resin. Then I drove around for a while to cool off brakes. Then another bed in process with 5 cycles and then let them cool off again whole driving. Did this total 3 or 4 times. No squeal since.

I would like to try this out, I'm just worried I'm going to ruin my zimmermann rotors that I paid $200 a piece for!
I contacted ebc and they are sending me shims for the pads.

This shouldn't ruin your rotors. I did it with new rotors too. You just have to make sure you don't come to a stand still with hot brakes. It will imprint the pad on one part of the disc. Also make sure to brake hard but just shy of enabling ABS

If you want a more detailed description of the whole bed in process. Look up stoptech brakes bed in process on google. It's the same process for all brakes. It even describes what you should do differently depending on the type of pads you have.
