Where do you guys mount your GoPro's?

Hey guys,

I got a GoPro for Christmas, and am planning to try it out this weekend at an HPDE. I want to a have view in front of me from inside my cabin. I was thinking about sticking it upside down to the sunroof. Where in the cabin do you guys usually put yours? Thanks.

I put mine just right of the rearview mirror, but I have heard the sunroof gives a good panoramic of the cockpit too.

Chasecam headrest mount works great.

Aside from a good outside view, it helps to record your hand movements and gear selections. You can do this with 170degree setting on the GoPro.

Best to have the chasecam on the driver's seat unless you drive solo all the time, otherwise the moment your instructor adjusts his /herseat, your Gopro is pointing up or down.

Thanks for the input, I guess I'll give sunroof a shot. I have the LCD "Back Pack" or whatever it is called, so I guess I'll just experiment throughout the car.

Middle of the sunroof more towards the rear works great for me, gives a good view of the steering wheel and what's in front of the car. I wish I could get it to come down a little lower to see outside better but it's not a real problem.

I ended up putting on the roof, and on top of the roof. Both came out well, except for all the wind noise from the roof shot. I suppose there is a setting on the GoPro to eliminate all that.

I had a great time though. It was my first track day in 2 years, I was ecstatic to be out on the track again. I was impressed with the car's handling. Not impressed with it's ability to stay cool. I didn't limp, but I pretty much coasted on the straights.

Here are some videos if you guess want to check them out. For some reason they won't embed though?

Nice stuff! Do you like your Aim? I am thinking of getting your exact same setup.

I normally use the suction mount in the windscreen

However I would like to mount it further back to be able to see speedo and rev counter.

I have used the GoPro Hero before...and now purchased a GoPro Hero2 for track use. I would suggest on the back window on the inside..pointing forward..you can change the angle to 120 down from the standard 180 degrees...

I have filmed myself on track many many times with other cameras that had drivers seat headrest mounts. Here is what it looks like with the rear window in a Miata at Infineon raceway.

I've experimented with many mounting points, here are some of my favorites..

I made this video from one of my Autocross events last year. I used side mount, in-car, and for the low front shots, I put a sticky mount on the front license plate frame (I normally drive with no front plate):

For the drag strip, this is my favorite:

Like others have stated, hanging the GoPro upside down from the sunroof is a good view. Here's another Autocross run:

What mounts are you using for the side shots? Suction cup? Sticky mounts? You feel comfortable mounting on painted surfaces?

I just used the suction mount that comes with the Motorsports HERO. I've stuck it on the paint many times with absolutely zero issues.

I'd be more worried about the GoPro falling off and getting ruined than actually causing any harm to the car's paint. And speaking of that, the suction is very strong and it has never fallen off after many runs at over 100 mph.

Okay cool. I really like that side view. I love the Hero2 motorsports edition. Great picture and accessories.
