Dealer brake quote
I was quoted $750 front and $750 rear. Is this completely ridiculous or am I just that out of touch. Can I just go to pep boys and have them do it. For that much I can just trade in for a new one.

That may be the expected price from a dealer but it's still crazy high to me. I think it takes me longer to jack up the car and take the wheel off then to actually change the pads.
There are plenty of shops in the tri-state area that could do it for much cheaper |

Search www.bimrs.org and find a local indy shop. Call Vac Motorsports or Helix in Philly (not too far of a drive) and see what they'd charge...both great shops.

Yea brakes are straight forward with our cars nothing special other than a new sensor and resetting it via idrive or turn signal stalk, so any mechanic shop should be able to handle the job

$1,500 + tax sounds about right for parts and labor for a complete front and rear brake job at a BMW dealership. However, to reiterate what several other posters have already stated, changing out rotors and pads on a BMW 3-Series is a relatively easy job to DIY.
The OEM parts are available at www.fcpeuro.com for about $600 (with free shipping). I completely understand that time is money, but cars are a fun hobby and you just have to find a little free time to work on them. For me, saving $900 in labor cost is definitely worth the 2 hours of my time it would take me to do a complete front and rear brake job. I find routine car maintenance to be an enjoyable/rewarding hobby that helps me learn more about my cars, ensures the job is done right (with the best parts available), and saves money too. You just have to spend a little bit of your time and effort doing it on a free weekend. You should really consider spending $80 on a Bentley (E90,91,92,93) Service Manual, buy the parts (and tools) you need for the job, and DIY some free weekend in order to save yourself $900. That savings works out to $450 per hour, which would definitely be worth the minimal time and effort to me...

good question. OP, have you had pads changed before? my dealership told me oem rotors should typically last two sets of pads: the original pads and one change of pads. Perhaps someone can measure your rotors to see if you can keep them instead of changing? (maybe your dealer did this already?)
