CLS 55 AMG

Per the request of some people, here are more pics of the CLS 55 AMG. The thing is a beast, 470 horses and over 500 lb ft torque....BUT as much power as it has, I still love the feel of a Bimmer over a Benz, unless you wanna talk about the black series

Not a fan of the first gen CLS to be honest. My stepdad has a black 63 and it's just okay imo. I'm not crazy about the banana shape or the lackluster bumper designs.

The new one, on the other hand...

Honestly most of the new-gen AMGs have great steering that makes you wonder what the hell they were thinking of during the early to mid-2000's (like this CLS or the CLK63). I never warmed up to them at all. The new batch of AMGs have very crisp steering with an improved amount of heft and connectiveness, although the whole "steering feel" thing is still lost, as is on most modern cars. At least the new ones load up naturally and don't feel awkward on-center.

+1

Also the rear seating is impossible for anybody over 5 feet. imho, it's more of a coupe style than a true 4 door sedan for pure functionality.

About Mercedes: MBs and AMGs are comfort cars first. Even the SLS is more about a "comfort supercar" than a 100% performance car. And alhough they've upped the steering and suspension a bit with current versions, they're still more about comfort cruising. (The new 2012 C63 coupe may be the first real exception to that rule, however.)

I have a W211 E63 that's my all around daily. It handles fine and the steering is weighted enough for what it is: a safe, heavy 4-door cruise-mobile with exceptional braking. It's perfect for long distance driving. And yet still agile enough for non-freeway driving, too. But these cars weren't designed for tossing into the corners and shouldn't be really be compared to a sports sedan, imho. They're autobahn cars and always feel planted and safe at 100+ mph.

Except maybe for a few models (BS, C63, SLS), the AMGs are really just Mercs with a hand assembled motor, some tuned suspension components, performance brakes, MCT/DCT or tuned 7G, minor exterior cosmetics, and some extra interior amenities.
