Hi!
It is not necessary to remove the card (or door panel) as you said for swapping the mirrors but you dont have to remove the tweeters neither, I left them hanging on the wire.

If you really want to remove them (the tweeters) you will have to remove the whole panel and unplug them from the speaker.

You will find more info RIGHT HERE

Yes, this is valid for all e9x BMW and also for 1-Series (e81,e82,e87,e88)
And yes, you can install M3, LCI, PreLCI... mirrors in all cars (pay attention to the car variant because e92/e93 mirrors wont fit at e90/e91)

So all I need to remove is the tweeter molding? Do I just pull hard? Thanks.

No, you don't! You have to pull from the upper corner and unplug the plastic flap from it hole.
Then slide the moulding up and the second flap will release from its slot.

It is not difficult but you have to see the flaps for comprehending what are you doing.

You only need extra wiring for the INNER mirror if you dont have the EC inner mirror. I mean, the EC sensor is located at the inner mirror and it controlls the outside EC too. So if you want side EC mirrors, you also need to install the inner one with the extra wiring for it.

But it does not matter if you have power seats or not.

Kind regard.
Hi everybody,

I installed interior autodim mirror, and I'm enchanted,
but my car is an E90 basic, my seats are basic, and I see too complex retrofit as you,
I only would like make the basic part, retrofit the side autodim mirrors, without folding mirrors.

my questions are:
- I have thought in buying side mirrors and wire to the interior. my heated mirrors have two wires, the autodim have four, I understand that are 2heating +2autodim signal,
- do you think, I only have to wire between the interior and the side mirrors?
- as you say, the foot module is already comunicated with the interior mirror, and then is the wiring only necessary between the foot module and the door?

I think once we have installed the interior mirror, is the next step, and driving at night as I do, this is very helpfull.

thak you beforehand. Regards

Hi,

Side autodim mirrors are tied to power folding.
You cannot retrofit only autodim.

The only idea you can try is:
As you said, autodim glass has 4 wires:
- 2 for heating
- 2 for dimming.

Maybe you can install a pair of wires from each side mirror to the inner glass and try it but I am not sure it would work.

Let us now what happen!

Fantastic DIY!

I'm going to retrofit LCI folding/dimming mirrors to my Pre-LCI 2008 335i Sport (non-heated) as I've read they are 100% electrically compatible and the slightly larger, squarer mirror would help me avoid traffic when switching lanes. Will also be going the recycled route (eBay is my friend) because buying new mirror bodies and glass would reach $1,200; and that's through the cheapest e-tailers (BMW Parts Pros).

FYI, the switch assembly is slightly different for the Pre-LCI E90/91's and utilizes a pair of pins to attach to the door handle pull cup. You really can't pry this switch assembly up from the door arm rest without breaking off these delicate pins, so if you plan on reselling it, plan on taking off the door panel in order to push the switch assembly straight up to remove it.

I don't have memory seats, so I need a different wiring set for my passenger door. I have tried to find the correct cable on eBay, but they only advertise with the 7 digit number that I cannot lookup at realoem.com. Anyone knows how to convert it to a 11 digit number or vice versa?

For instance, is this the correct one 6938218 with 3 pin in passenger door?

I'm not sure what car you have, but simply going into RealOEM without plugging in your VIN and manually specifying a model (e.g. "3' E90" -> "328i" -> "USA" -> "06/2008" -> "N52N") then going to the Vehicle Electrical System -> Door Cable Harnesses, you are presented with two different "Co-Drivers" side (passenger) wiring:

PN 61126947094 (basic) and PN 61126947096 (folding mirrors OR Auto DIP OR Memory Seats.

I think you can follow those steps to lead you to the wiring cable you need for your specific model. But I'm not sure if there are additional wiring harnesses you need within the cabin/fuse box as the cable above is just for the door.

Hi Augster

Thank you for your input. I have already looked up the part number on realom for my car http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...45&hg=61&fg=10 but these numbers are not matching the 7 pin numbers used on eBay auctions. Maybe I just buy one of them to find out which number is actually the correct one Or I need to buy the more expensive new cable

Besides the wiring for the passenger door, I need to mount two more wires in existing connector in the A pillar in the passenger door. One from the fuse box and one from FRM.

I would personally trust RealOEM part numbers as its based off of BMW's very own ETK parts system, over any eBay auction any day of the week.

Having said that, I have definitely come across a couple instances where part numbers or other information was definitely in error. For example, BMW/RealOEM states that my pre-LCI 335i with factory oil cooler aka high speed synchronization uses the half-open right lower grill insert but that would actually block air into the oil cooler duct; not only that, but BMW has discontinued the fully open grill insert that is the correct part so there is no way to get the right part through BMW/e-tailers and I had to source a New Old Stock (NOS) from eBay.

If you truly feel adventurous and want to give them your business, by all means, knock yourself out with eBay.

Many part numbers cannot be checked neither realOEM nor official ETK due this reasons:

- If the part is fitted from factory sometimes it has been produced with certain specs and you wont find it as spare part. You will find other compatibles with your car with better specs. Example: your BFS or FAS modules, CIC head units...

- Many parts cannot be bought as spare part since you have to buy a bigger spare that includes it. Example: you wont find an spare glass for your tacho.

Thanks, I managed to find the correct wiring harness at a Swedish breaker.

I have mounted "new" outside mirrors, door switch and because my car is not with memory seats, I have changed the wiring harness in the right door and added the missing wires from FRM module and fusebox. I have also managed to change my VO and now the mirrors fold when using the switch and the right mirror tilts when car is put in reverse. The car was already with inside dimming mirror but I can not get the outside mirrors to dimm. What am I doing wrong?

Did you coded the FRM and also the FZD with the new VO $430? (and also 431 should be written if missing)

thank you for getting back to me. I was getting crazy about it not working, so last night I took the mirror glass off and it only has two wires to the glass. I concluded this means it is the incorrect mirrors that where delivered and have made a complaint to the vendor . Hopefully I have also found the correct mirrors at another and will soon be able to get it working correctly

Hello everyone,
I have been reading this thread with interest. I want to retrofit power folding mirrors to my 2010 lci e92. The car has no memory seats. I was hoping someone could guide me through the wiring. I know I need to wire from the FRM module and fuse box. Which pins at the from module and where do the go to. I know I need to replace the drivers door switchpack but not sure if I need to rewire both doors as well. Also where at the fuse box and where to? The coding and VO I'm last worried about as I'll let a specialist take care of that.

I have retrofitted many cars without power seats and you have all the signals you need at the driver power windows switch center. So you dont have to run any wire.
Only you have to connect some wires at the driver door and everything will work properly.

If you want to do it OEM, then you will have to change the co-driver door wiring and also run few wires as you said.

Regards.

So does this mean just from the frm to drivers door? Does anyone know which pins at frm and where on drivers door?

I just finished my install in early December 2013 on my E91 LCI 2009/11 LHD without power seats. This is what I did:
1) Download the Sentinel ISID software, this has all the wiring diagrams
2) Bought (used) switch cluster for driver door.
3) Bought two (used) mirrors (foldable, heating & dimmable)
4) Bought (used) wire harness for passenger door fitted for foldable mirrors (it's also possible to make alterations on the existing cable from 5 wire mirror to 3 wire mirror connector but I preferred OEM)
5) Bought new pins for FRM and doors connectors
6) Installed one wire from FRM to drivers door (LIN bus)
7) Installed one wire from FRM to passenger door
8) Installed one wire from fuse box to passenger door
9) Coding

I cannot remember the pin numbers in the connectors but I can look it up. There is however a risk it does not match your car and hence I recommend the ISID software

No it doesn't.
Connecting only the right wires means that you dont have to route any wire inside the car. Only you will have to swap your mirrors and solder some wires at the driver door switching center.

No extra wires at all.

Succesfully tested in many e90 cars with manual seats and standar mirrors.

Of course, the right way is the way that djerik has explained but it seems to much work for me.

Regards

Hi djerik, all,

can someone please tell me part numbers of pins for FRM and door socket ?

I believe they're the ones on pics here:
http://www.babybmw.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=20428
.. but cannot find part numbers to order them.

Thanks!
