New Wheels question

Hey guys,

Just got my new Apex arc-8's from the group buy and before I mount tires I would like to put a coat of sealer/wax on them. I have seen a lot of you guys use Poorboy's Wheel Sealant, but I have seen this other cool new spray, Sonax Polymer Net Sealant. Looks easy to apply and it lasts about as long as a wipe on sealant. Thoughts?

The wheels are hyperblack finish.

Opti Coat

Looks like some have recommended the OptiCoat. My wheels haven't been mounted yet. Will there be issues with the wheel weights sticking after I apply opti coat to the barrels?

Poorboy's Wheel Sealant is rubbish. There is far better out there now.

You'd be better off using the likes of Gtechniq C5 or CQuartz DLUX.

Personally I like FK1000P

I would have the wheel weights stuck on before protecting as people have experienced bonding issues in the past.

Try out CQuartz UK or Opti-Coat.

I think I'm just going to give them a good coat of wax. Thanks for the replies. Got the tires mounted and balanced first.

The best way to protect them would be something like OptiCoat 2.0 or 22PLE, then you can throw in quick additional protection with Hydr02 every few weeks. Wax usually won't last too long, but it's surely better than nothing if you don't wish to invest in the coatings.

Again, go with Opti-Coat.

Ok guys. You sold me. Haha. Any particulars with the application? I have read it leaves a bit of a sticky type coating but that's normal. The rims are brand new. Any prep?

Damn...I just opticoated mine....planning to take to get wheel balanced soon....hope my weights don't fly off =[ how did u correct the situation?...

On a side note, any surface you want to put the coating on will have to be oil free so when you get your wheel wash it with some dish washing soap dry it and then mix a solution of IPA and deminerlised water, ratio of 10-15% IPA 90-85% deminerlised water in a trigger sprayer and spray and wipe the wheel with quality microfibre cloths if u want to be sure do a spray down with demin water as well...then opticoat away =)

I would say Opti Coat, customers send us wheels to get opti coated before they get mounted.

Take a look Opti Coat 2 I have seen about 2 years on the wheels on my daily driver.

You can also take a look at Auto Finesse Mint Rims and Sonax Polymer Net Shield

How about applying Opticoat to just the outer area? Applying it to the barrel seems a little...excessive.

I would advise on the barrels as it will be the most beneficial. it will ease up the cleaning them up. you can skip it if you want though.

Just applied the opti-coat 2.0 after an IPA wipedown. Haven't mounted the new summer wheels yet so it was easy to do the barrels and it barely uses much more. Actually started with a barrel first to get the pad primed. Was a little nervous but went on easily. Only used a couple ml's. Hope it lives up to its reputation.
