another thing is that when putting on the new knob is it also just pushing it back in hard? and will it be the same for the hamann shift knob?
What kind of wheels are those? They rock!

Can anyone tell me if this also works for a DCT shift knob. I want to take the trim off to change the ashtray to sunglass holder

My knob came off while pulling very hard...but so did part of the boot clips and tue boot leather was ripped from the M Sport knob it was attached to. I installed a BMW performance shift knob. Now I'm dealing with the problem of the ripped boot. I saw that the M Sport shift knob had a yellow plastic attached eith clips to it. I have removed that clip and as soon as my wife comes home will see if I can work somethimg up (i live in a condo and my baby is sleeping). Will post puctures if it comes out successful...

if its auto then put in Neutral and press the button on the back and pull up really hard. the first time is the hardest than it gets easier.

I tugged on mine (6MT) for a bit and it didn't budge. I'm afraid I'm going to break something.

The actual procedure I learned from my E30 Bentley service manual is to put the lever in 2nd gear, push down on the knob then quickly pull straight up. Do not twist the knob because you will break the plastic tab on the inside of it. Once you have it apart you'll see the metal slot in the top of the shift lever that the tab fits into.

My plastic tab between the shift stick and knob broke (2009 6mt M Sport). I was looking to replace the shift knob for the performance shift knob only. Since it broke, the leather was messed up. No clear solution to that besides buying a new performance alcantara boot! =)

I use a Momo shift knob on my car. Love the thing. Locks on to the shift lever with three set screws; stays put.
