Am I the only one who's not sure of the advantages and disadvantages of top mount vs. bottom mount?

My gut says top mount is the way to go because it looks cool but I honestly don't know the real differences besides just the turbo mounting location.

Top-mount is going to radiate a lot more heat into the engine bay, but it's WAY easier for maintenance; and in this case, spacial constraints.

Congratulations, not sure how that is relevant since you have never been to the shop. Nice to know you were thinking about it...

Top mounts are engine bay heat factorys. But they look cool.

I think its because when you spend that much money on a turbo upgrade its nice to be able to see it when you open the hood

I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the being able to fit a twin scroll appropriately. Plus a little showing off and ease of cleaning the air filter. Can't imagine what that must sound like. Even with it tucked like mine all you can hear when you drive by a car is a jet engine sound reflecting off of it.

@Presidio335xi It's still a joke that you tried and bust my balls about assuming and then you do the same thing. If you don't like my posts ignore/hide me or whatever this forums has. Just give up already man. I'm sorry that my posts bother you so much. I was just curious about the FFTEC/VISHNU relationship and posted what makes the most sense to me. Why don't you try and prove why what I said is impossible/wrong instead of just flaming? If you want to talk about someone who is adding NOTHING to the discussion...

There is alot of information online if you do a google search.

From my limited understanding:

Top mount:easy to change turbos(that that you should have to often or at all), obvious(can't hide you have a monster snail), create a ton of heat(which may mean needing to protect/move things you weren't expecting to), longer tubes generally(more lag), easy to change filter.

Bottom mount: hard to change turbo, hard to change filter, shorter runners(less lag), heat made outside of engine bay, stealth.

Which would I go for? Depends on the car and purpose. for street racing, betting, and lying about your power output bottom mount. I would want to show it off so top mount and obviously TS if available. That being said I had heard good things about QSVs and the dynos show they really help...

Swirl pots are used in the cooling system if there is excessive heat near a cooling system component to ensure that the coolant is constantly moving and thereby reduces the amount of heat transferred into the coolant. It does this by "swirling" the cooling as it enters the pot and since no single molecules of coolant are ever at the same distance from the heat for more than an instant, the heat is not efficiently absorbed into the coolant. Make sense?

Cool, thanks! I had done a quick google search on them and came up with.a "feul swirl pot" which looked/sounded similar to a surge tank so was curious if that's what fftec was using it as.

The factory coolant reservoir takes up the space where the turbo is placed with the FFTMK. (FFTEC Top Mount Turbo Kit) We made an aluminum swirl pot that is re-located to the driver's side of the engine bay to make space for the turbo.

Shiv and FFTEC worked together on the R&D for the hardware for the Singe Turbo kit they produced. It was not just FFTEC doing all of the work. On the software side, Shiv did all the tuning.

The tuning, like the hardware design, was definitely a joint effort between both FFTEC and us. I might be the guy usually tuning the dyno, but getting to that point took a lot of collaboration and joint brainstorming

Nice to know! Did you and Sean work on some of the tuning together?
