Spent a little more time ... got to remove the rest of the wiring loom, but not much left to unbolt. Lots of metal to cut off [and add !].

Almost at that very scary stage when it is entirely in pieces. Got to keep momentum at this stage.

Hopefully secured an old car in 2 parts, but with many useful and rare parts. Still searching for parts/panels. Not so easy.

Some "progress".

Stripped down fully. Glass out, wiring loom out, suspension dropped. Only metal (and holes) left.

Busy sourcing parts. Easier locating hen's teeth.

Slowly moving forward.

I initially bought a non-runner when I restored the MK I but it ended up being even more uneconomic than buying a reasonable runner and restoring it. I think the uneconomic car didn't look any worse than yours so the best of luck with it!

Purely sentimental job, first car that I bought myself.

I went into this fully aware that this is a totally uneconomical project - even a single steel wing costs over £500 to source ! So that is £1000 already earmarked and doesn't even scratch the surface of the rebuild.

Just a big project for fun [sometimes]. Will be good to rebuild and improve everything on the car - from bodywork and interior, suspension to new engine plant/installation.

Will take a long time, but worth it when she is back on the road again.

Just bought another MK1 Capri GT ... with a lot of very useful [and rare] spares. Won a watch.

You wouldn't believe what prices these are making.

Stoking up with bits. My middle name is magpie at the mo'.

Loving those leaf springs! Did they all have them i.e. until they stopped making them in the mid 80s?

Yup, although those are single leaf springs from a 2.8i that I fitted, along with the greatly increased front and rear 2.8i anti-roll bars.

Might seem archaic ... but RFTs are no real progression either ...

Saw this in the Paddock at Le Mans.

A race spec RS2600 that played with the Porsches and BMWs.

Managed to acquire another Capri GT. (Un)fortunately it actually turned out to be in far better nick than expected, and better than mine .... so may make 2 Capris.

Still, came with lots of very useful spares.

Last week I have also aquired another shell - so will be unzipping that for more spares. Will hopefully have pics soon.

Long, slow job. But starting to accrue the right parts.

Nice, I love old Fords....it's a vrey slow tedious process but if you have the time and money it's great fun, and even better when they are back in one piece in mint condition.

I also restored my first car from a bare shell (Series one Rs Turbo), thankfully it's almost finished, going to be rebuilding the engine and fitting a new gearbox over the winter which im looking forward too. Was supposed to be selling it, but I dont think I can tbh as i've spent so much time/money on it and also being that bit sentimental as it's my first car...im sure you'll know the feeling!

Sorry to hijack your thread, but hopefully it'll give you some inspiration

Side stripes and RS decals are fitted now, Needs wheels refurbed, engine rebuilt and tidied up, had it MOT'd but its only done arund 5 miles since resto.

One thing I will say, if you get pee'd off and feel like selling it, Just close the garage and forget about it until you get enthusiasm back!

keep the updates coming

Well .... closed the garage door on it 20 years ago. Need to get some work done to it now.

Your username makes sense now. To me the S1s are new school. But the S1s are becoming classics now and getting rarer, your S1 is looking good. I remember servicing a few when they were new, when I was a mechanic. Great fun with the LSD. Always very sensitive to rust under the battery tray though.

Here is my latest aquisition.

Yea, a lot of my cars rust problems stemed from a poor repair on the battery tray......bodged is the word here!

Yea, to the old skool boys they are considered new school, but still one of my favorite Fords, wouldn't even compare it to a series 2.....SO much nicer to drive surprisingly.
I work with a lot of RS turbo's in my job, mostly tuning them for power.

3 Capri's now, your keen is this one just for parts? shell getting sold on afterwards? can't scrap it surely!! I got side tracked and bought a fiesta RS turbo as I got bored waiting for the Escort mid resto, then the engine and management found it's way into the S1 after I scrapped the big bhp route...was sick of spending pound after pound.

Will be keeping an eye on this though. what's the plans for underside? I found boat paint a good option believe it or not!

Feeling a wee bit peely wally .......

Just acquired a panel for my car that cost more than ten times what I paid for the whole car.

Needs must. But shocking how much you have to pay to get the very rare parts now.

Away for a wee lie down now.
