Opinions on buying a 335i with high K's

Hi all,

As most of you know, I'm currently in the market for an e92 335i. I was hoping to get one with <100,000kms but have found one for sale with 128,000kms that is priced accordingly. Now I understand 128kkms is high but I'm moving to the city this week and will thus be reducing my kms considerably.

I am comparing it to vehicles that are 5-8K more and that don't have a couple of features that this one has. It is also in a favourable colour combination.

I would of course arrange for a pre purchase inspection prior to ensure that nothing is wrong with it but would imagine due to kms that I'll probably have to replace minor suspension and driveline components (bushings, possibly driveshaft coupling etc.) but the initial saving would more than accommodate for this.

I plan on getting a Procede and eventually a HPF exhaust, intake & catch can. In the very distant future, downpipes & FMIC but no meth.

Essentially what i'm looking for is your thoughts on the K's? Am i really better off spending another 7k to get a car with 50,000kms less? What items are likely to need replacing straight away and what items are likely to come up in the next 30,000kms+? It's an automatic so no clutch or fly issues.

I plan on keeping the car for 2-3years and in that time will probably put on 20-30,000kms.

Sorry, i'm not exactly sure what you mean by "side sounds like you have read a brochure and thats it" and "Cause the first bit sounds like you are looming to see"

335 in question is a 2007.

I was driving a face-lift e46 325ci and am now driving a 2008 Subaru Liberty GTB as a loan from a friend.

low ks, less options every time... 335's have most options as standard anyway so i dont see how much variance there can be...

This one has a Sunblind, Professional audio, voice control, anti dazzle mirrors inside and out (not sure if this was standard) & BMW online.

Here is a link to the vehicle
http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d....5&sort=~Price

The owner says he has been offered 40.5k as a trade and is therefore not keen to negotiate. I think it's probably a case of the dealer inflating the trade in price and not discounting as much as they could on the new vehicle.

I wouldn't pay more than 40k for the vehicle. $42,500 is just too close to the other vehicles with much lower k's. I'll keep shopping

I thought you had budgeted around 55? You can surely see many fairly low km cars for that price. I'd personally go for lower kms, and as orey says 335is are all very similar with the basic options so the variations are quite minor.

I have budgeted up to 55k but have recently invested some cash into stocks. Buying a car for ~45k would allow me to keep my stocks.

At the end of the day, I'm in no rush to get into a 335 based on the fact that I have a perfectly good loan car. However, this car ticks all the boxes besides the K's so if I could get it for a bargain i'm wondering if it's worth considering.

I would probably get a lower km, and +1 what is BMW Online?

Is that like the new F30 where you can browse the net? didn't think they have it on the E9X 07 model.

Anyway, owner isn't interested in negotiating so I won't get it. I would only get a vehicle with high K's if I was getting it for a good price. I feel 40k is a good price but 42k isn't.

Dude call up people asking for more money and offer them less. I wouldn't even offer 35k for a bashed high km 335i.

You never know how keen someone is to sell. Have the money ready and offer them the convenience of a no hassles sale. Look at the car, get it tested, within a few days take it off their hands. Be patient.

A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay. When i bought my e93, I had 2 colour combos in mind, maximum kms and a maximum price, I called up every single one and offered them that price, 3-4 said no way, 1 said maybe in a month and 1 said yes. (I offered him 12k less than his asking price).

That's is way too cheap for the price. I'd be worried he's discovered something and I trying to offload it quickly.

Put it in perspective. You won't get a 2007 with 80,000kms for less than $50k

You're saving $7.5k that could do a gearbox or engine if need be.

Resale is big now for cars under 100,000 kms, once it's above that whether it's 120/140/160 there isn't a huge margin in it.

If its good I would buy it and pocket the difference.

Up to you. If I saw that 2 months ago I would have bought it

BMWGTR is right though, you never know what people are willing to accept so it's worth ringing around to see.

I've sold cars in the past way below market value because I got them cheap and just didn't want the hassle

Sunblind is pointless, are you really going to base your car if it has a rear curtain?

Professional audio this is worth it but then again its not hard to change the speakers to something 10x better

voice control - What a fkn joke! Worst system ever!

anti dazzle mirrors is this the same as auto dimming? If so this is easily the most annoying feature ever invented on a car. I cant see a fkn thing in my mirrors are night time thanks to this fkn useless feature. And if you end up getting tint, you might as well catch a taxi with Stevie Wonder as the driver because it would prob be safer!

BMW online.

Dec its time to grow up from the E46 mentality. Options mean fk all in an E9x and make no difference! As you can prob see around here, E9x owners dont have a shopping list of options in their sigs like everyone at E46....

^^this. All I can see at night are two lights with very little idea as to how far away they are. And my tint is legal.

Eric, totally agree mate. I wasn't going to purchase the car based on the options, more the colour combination and the price (assuming the owner was willing to negotiate). Options will always be the icing on the cake with the exclusion of active steering which is more the replacement of flour with bicarb soda (I know little about making cakes so I hope I got the analogy right!)

Seems like general consensus is wait for a car with lower K's so that's exactly what I'll do.

Edit: Also good to hear the dimming mirrors are standard, I retrofitted the rear vision mirror in my e46 and it's definitely something I miss driving the Liberty.

42k is bloody cheap. Check it out. Take it for a drive. Get inspection, maybe its been looked after. Yes preferably berher to hv 50 or 90k but ud b paying 8k more. German built cars are not meant to be thrown away after 130k km.
