Anyone know why my car car starts to smell like burned rubber or plastic when i step on my brakes hard? Only does it when i brake hard. And no, my engine bay does not have leaves causing that smell. Help!?!!

This was an issue I had before. Unless your brakes are brand new, even then it shouldn't have that much of a scent.

Figured out that I had a cover gasket leak as well as a valvetronic leak. Get that checked out if you haven't already. I had the exact same smell that you described.

Also, try driving your car uphill and see if you have that scent.

Did it uphill and downhill nothing changed unless I was breaking hard :/ .... Same when I have the car parked and step on the brakes hard and I don't smell anything. This is very odd for me

I would take a peek at your brake rotors. If they show signs of hot spots or have a dark bluish color to them, they could have gotten excessively hot. Also, if you have a front brake caliper that is stuck or frozen, it could cause the other front caliper to work extra hard when braking. With 70% of the braking coming from the front brakes, and having one sticking caliper, that is a lot of pressure on the one working front caliper.

Thanks man. I'll check it out. But it looks like im not losing engine oil so it could possibly be the brake lines or something thats related to brakes.
