Locking wheel bolt

Gents,

Went to take a wheel off because the centre cap needed replacing and when I had a look at the locking bolt it is all chewed up inside - so I can't get the wheel off - any ideas on how to get the wheel off?

Steve.

A Torx bit hammered into the bolt might be enough, depending how tightly it's been done up. If not, a trip to your local tyre fitter armed with a couple of beer tokens will probably see it right.

I'm not sure that there is enough clearance between the outside of the locker and the alloy wheel itself to use one of these tools.

Which leaves an air chisel......which I've used more than once with nil damage :-/

solved this on another car which had lugnuts by using air impact socket that was just larger the body of the lock then i hammered onto the body of the wheel lock and then attached the socket to the impact and removed it. so i was able to remove it through tension on the rounded sides, kinda like a pipe wrench.

I didn't it must of been done when I had the run-flats removed, that's the last time the tyres were off the car.

Those removers will be fine aslong as there is enough clearance between the wheel and locker itself.

those are the ones but as dave says make sure they will fit into the bolt socket on the wheel. another thing worth considering is making sure you torque the bolts up properly and evenly this makes removing them easier as most tyre places do them up far too tight. the bmw jack comes with a preset wrench and gives reassurance that the bolts are tightened correctly.
