Gearbox tuning for AT
Is it at all possible to upgrade/tune the software on AT gearboxes ?
Like I would like to lock gears when in +/- mode in sportsmode , like the M5 and so on... What options are available and what can be done in this matter? |

yeah i can't believe in M mode the trans still upshifts on its own.... my friend has 08 tundra with 5.7l v8 - even THAT in "M" mode will let you bounce the rev limiter all day.

I don't think we can really limit the DS mode to not shifting since we're in AT - I think all BMW AT cars w/ triptonic style shifting automatically shift up to prevent damage from redlining right?

Well they got this function on the M series , some get surprised when they floor it and expect it to shift automatically and then dont , they are glued to the windshield more or less from that experience...
And gearbox is operated by a chip also , so it should be possible . Not being possible due to damage to engine is just not believable , is there some kind of super engine in MT cars then? |

please let me get this on my car....
it is as stated in this thread , when you are in manual mode with this car and try to do a good shifting at high rpm , then the transmission ecu has already shifted and when that happends you end up shifting twice and look like an Also when having the LSD installed and drifting comes into play , its pretty lame when the car keeps shifting when you need it the least... |

Obviously no one wants to over rev their engine as engine damage (valve bounce, piston to valve contact damage) is not good. So what I'd like to see is, when selecting "Manual Mode", the engine will hold revs to redline for a predisposed time and then shift if held for to long to protect the engine.
For the track users - On downshift, if we can get the car to hold gears and then add in proper throttle blipping so when you then upshift to accellerate again......(like out of a corner), the car would punch harder into the next upshifting gear and accelerate faster. This would be my ideal setup. |

The DCT on the 335i will shift up automatically when you hit the redline. If you put the gear lever in DS and use the pedals it will hold the manual mode. If you use the pedals in D it will automatically go back to D after a while.
The only problem with the DCT is, already discussed on N54tech, that the rmps are set for launch controle. It would be great if a tuner could change it so we can set it our selves. |

Old thread , but just want to add , if you use paddles on in DS mode and you hold the paddle in position , it stays in that gear.... only way to cheat the system that I found so far.

I tried it yes , but not for longer period , just to redline and a few sec to see that it stays in that gear. And it worked.
