Break in period before Dinan upgrade....
Have 300 miles on my e92 coupe 6MT now. I know that there are different schools on how to break in engines. I would normally be running liike crazy, but since there are other components such as turbos to break in, I am driving somewhat easy before 1k miles.
Question......did you guys follow the manual for the most part with break in, or did you just go balls out from day one? I would like to mod the ecu just after 1k miles....(I have experience with a previously owned Audi B5 stage 2 S4)....but did not mod until about 4k miles. Any recommendations would be very appreciated. Thanks much -S |

If you are going to Dinan flash, you BEST wait until after the 1,200 mile "break in" procedure in the BMW manual.
If you do it earlier, Dinan could use that as there out on warranty coverage saying you didn't let the engine properly break in before flashing. And BMW could use it as an excuse to void other parts of the car than just the drivetrain, stating you obviously put more stress on parts earlier before the official break in period. But as for break in, I wouldn't "drive it like you stole it" but I don't think treating it like a baby for the first 1,200 miles in necessary either. Drive it like you would if it had 5000 miles on the odometer....ie: mix it up with both heavy and light driving, stop and go as well as freeway cruising, long straight roads, and some canyon carving. Have fun. |

I know I'd like to follow the break-in rule on the User Manual but I just couldn't resist. I rev'ed my engine to 6k rpm twice just to pass some slow vehicles in the fast lane.
I had 700 miles on her so far, 500 more to go

I've been driving my car hard since 16 miles on the odometer. I installed a vishnu procede after about 150 miles.
I broke in my previous cars nice and easy. They seemed to be a little slower than average. With this car I decided to do the opposite. Not exactly scientific, but hey, it's more fun this way...... |
