haha weird.. I could've sworn it was t-5 but it's been too long since I've done this for me to remember.

Update: here is what my interior looks like now with a bmw performance knob

Is that functional? If so, I'd be very interested in doing that to my car... Part numbers/cost, anyone?

OEM leather MT boot with DCT/6er knob(still under construction) MT boot had to be unstitched to fit the knob.

here's the knob modded to sit lower

ask phattbam. he's the only guy I know that looked into doing the wiring for that shift knob, but as far as I know, I don't think he ever finished it.

WOW!
I did the same exact mod with my BMW Performance Manual shift boot and M3 shift knob...
Change the steptronic knob with the M3 knob and driving your car will be 10000000 times more pleasurable.

You'll have to line the inside of the knob with some velcro to keep it from being loose. Luckily for me, the guy I bought it from had already done that. I'd say contact longtran. He can probably sell you a knob with the velcro inside done by him. To be honest I never looked inside the knob so I can't really guide you lol

sorry for bumping an old thread

I did this a little differently. Instead of playing around with the wires and stuff I just put the manual boot over the step (auto) trim. It was kind of a pain to put the boat on it but it makes it so you don't have to worry about the cords and stuff.

sounds very interesting. I wasn't aware that would even be possible, considering the size of the manual boot. does it look flush?

It sits at the same height as the normal automatic trim. The trim snaps in and everything as it normally would. It was a pain to do, a lot of trial and error if I did it again it'd probably take half the time.

Would you be willing to take a picture when you have time? I'm really curious now. Maybe I'm missing something, but I still can't visualize it.

And the reason for doing this is... what exactly?

Is the MT knob somehow more convenient to use with Steptronic? I thought that MT knobs are usually designed for the typical MT kind of motion (i.e sideways as well as forward-backward), while Steptronic knobs are mostly for forward-backward motion, so there's not much point in installing a MT knob on a Steptronic car.

Or is it "just for looks" (i.e as RICE as it ever gets)?
