Riss Racing Oil Catch Can Leak?!

sorry for the caps but wanted your attention

.... Hey guys I saw a couple previous posts about how the rissracing o.c.c. were leaking at the ends, however i read that one of the hoses should be clean... well... today I was going to do the fix with the washers/silicone sealant and clamps. Out of curiosity I got a screw driver, tied a little piece of paper towel to it, so it doesn't fall off, and pushed put it inside both hoses... i got oil out of both of them!!! I thought one of them was supposed to be clean since it goes to the intake?!!!

look what else i foud, my can leaked out of the seal that connects the bottom of the "guage/viewer"... i found the seal broken like this

Oh great, right after I bought my OCC!

Anyways, In my previous thread I mentioned that oil leaked out of "every" connection. That means the viewing tube also

After using thread tape and clamps on everything it has been fine.

About you seeing oil in the other tube -- Check your OCC, it's supposed to be stuffed with that wire mesh junk. I looked in mine and there were literally 2 'half dollar sized' peices of this stuff in there. Needless to say I packed in much more to properly do the job. So far no problems, and the viewing tube is finally turning color.

I was at Terry's this weekend... and I think I know what you're talking about!

OP, thanks for sharing your pictures... I may have to check out my OCC as well for the same leakage.

new gasket/washers and thread tape around the nipple

as far as getting inside, there is no point really.. you can always try to torx screws. i packed in more mesh with a screw driver through the drain hole

yea did the thread, no washers though homedepot and lowes were out... thanks for all your help though... i just wanted to get inside to put more mesh in... thanks again

I can tell you whatever I am talking about will be available some time, with certain features, and you will be able to possibly install it on some form of car in some sort of way..

My RR can continues to sit in the box in my garage. Looking for a better solution. So far it's buying the 3/8" mckinney can and using the Riss hose kit.

Waiting to see what you announce Mike. Just put on a new intercooler and need to do something soon.

That's $9 catch can from ebay. Look up any universal catch can in ebay. Putting on a RR logo and tenfold price on it does not change the quality to any better.

I've seen that before. It adds to the issues with RR in my eyes.

That one actually looks a bit better - for $9 I would try it and try to fix the leaks nowing it was probably going to leak - for $100 + the install kit, RR should be giving everyone their money back or fixing it and sending out the fix!

Before you go ahead with the installation, attach the two tubes on the OCC with the clamps. Attach, also, with the screws, the mounting point. Put the OCC inside a water bucket or something similar, and close, one tube with your fingers. Blow hard through the other tube. Find the points where there is a leak (air bubbles) and fix it. In my case, the two rubber washers on the mounting point were the problem.
They are too small and thin, which is a construction fault.
