Conti TS830p winter tyres - unstoppable!

Just got the TS830 tyres today from mytyres having read top reviews in auto express about them and a personal fan of alll conti tyres as they always seem to be the best that iv tried.

Had them fitted to my 18x8 replica mv3 wheels - all in about 1k it cost me- but so worth it....

My car is now unstoppable I actively search snow covered roads to test them and they just cut through anything i throw at them - amazing tyres - night and day compared to bridgestone runflats on the 19's - can take the car anywhere it even went up the snow covered hill to work which even my 4wd audi w12 only managed halfway on its summer conti S.C. 3's before spinning all 4 wheels!

Cant reccomend these enough and they are not even worn in yet!

On a side note the car is so much quieter and smoother on the 18's with non run flats alot better dont need to avoid potholes that send crashing noises through the cabin!! although they dont look as mean as the 19's.

On another side note I removed fuse no. 43 today to stop the headlight washers popping up as nearly lost one of the painted covers yesterday when they popped up in the frost!

yeah pal deffo worth removing the fuse unless u want a hole in the bumper when the washer cover falls off and then get quoted 70quid or so to replace it by the stealer!

Not sure pal they should be although on the conti site they do 2 or 3 types of TS830 and its the P they tested which came up no1 in auto express- cost me £167 a tyres but so worth it - dont believe in buying cheap tyres as they are only point of contact between car and road and its proven that cheap ones from korea/china/uk are nowhere near as good!

The fuse- open glovebox - there is a cover at the back - twist the knob on either side a quarted turn and then pull panel out- there should be a folded card on the back of it with all the fuse positions and numbers. using the fuse puller which is held on the fusebox pull out 43 (its on the right bottom just above the large fuses) and store it somewhere safe for MOT time - and voila no headlight washer jets popping up wasting washer fluid and popping expensive covers off!

Obviously you're own experience would tell you for sure but you can tell your 'clever' mate it's not only BMW's on summer tyres be it RFT's or otherwise that are not 'ideal' in the snow shall we say as a RWD Porsches on summer tyres WILL get stuck if it's bad weather believe me!! Knew I should have had some ballast that day.

Clearly for most drivers the winter tyres are allowing people to actually move off their drives and join the rest of us on the road. I've mentioned it to my neighbour who has an E90 320d as his wife is seriously struggling to drive the car, but you can guess his attitude..............'I'm not buying a set of 4 new tyres!'

Just proves that it's the leather and not rubber products that Will is an expert on.

Sadly that appears to be the prevailing attitude when it comes to winter tyres - and safety. Sadly it isn't until a car ends up in a ditch and increased insurance premiums etc. that people realise, you know what, forking out about a grand for winter tyres and rims is actually a very good ivnestment [in the long run].

What price safety? Drive safe people!

I've got some 17's with Nankang sv-2's fitted and all in it cost me £500. at that price and if your keeping the car for a few years its a worthy investment. Also people don't realise that if you have winter tyres on, your summer tyres sit in your garage not wearing out, thus lasting longer. By my calulations it will cost me less over 3 years running winter rubber for 3 months a year running than summer rubber all year round.

On a coupe with 8j rims all round should I be looking for 225/40/18 all round because at the moment on 8.5j rims on the rear its 255/35/18?

And especially when the costs evens out anyway.

While winters are on, summers are unused and hence last longer. And if you change cars (as long as they're a similar fit) you can take them with you.

Whenever I mention my Wintracs I get looks of amazement - "We don't get enough snow for them" is the general response.

I am working on a similar theory with my Wintracs

The summer rubber (Mich PS2's) are about 50% worn now - I need them to last another 18 months until the car goes back, else I will have to fork out £300 per corner for new rubber.

There is little chance they will last 18months so £1200 spend is inevitable.

I have now chucked on the Wintracs andf they will prob be on from Nov-March. 5 months less wear on the PS2's this year and 5 months less wear next winter. This means that the PS2's will now only have to last 6 months driving which shouldn't be an issue.

The Wintracs were half the price of the PS2's so not only am I quids in, I am also SAFER!

The difference in grip levels is quite amazing. I have turned an unusable car in the snow into a very capable car. EVERY single car was wheel spinning down my street this morning. The snow was already compacted hard last night and it has now frozen over and snowed more on top. It is flat but has pretty well zero grip. Rear wheel drive cars were drifting sideways towards the kerbs with the camber of the road. I simply just drove out of my drive and off the estate effortlessly. Did not even flash the traction light once. Neither did the ABS cut in when I braked at the bottom of the hill, unlike the car in front who slid across the T junction after failing to stop.

I even followed a work colleague oin who has a Range Rover vogue. Even that got out of shape on the mini roundabout near work. Mine didn't even twitch.

I would highly recommend winter tyres to anyone

CHG - I've ordered mine from Etyres, TS830P in 225/40/18 and 255/35/18. They've quoted a 5 -10 day delivery time.

Mytyres are showing stock for 225/40/18 and from checking the price last week to today they've gone up £20 a wheel.

CHG try Kwikfits website, they have those Contis on offer at the moment. I bought four at the weekend to go on some 16inch OEM rims that I bought for winter £340. No where else could get near that price.
